You can change the look and feel of the on-screen keyboard on a Samsung Galaxy phone or tablet in Settings > General management > Samsung Keyboard settings. From there, adjust the theme, layout, size, or other available options; you do not need a physical keyboard or accessory. Menu names and features vary by model, carrier, and software version, so the exact choices on your device may differ.
Open Samsung Keyboard settings

Open Settings.

Tap General management > Samsung Keyboard settings.

Alternatively, open the Samsung Keyboard toolbar while typing and tap its Settings icon, if available.

Samsung lists themes, layout, size, feedback, and custom symbols among the keyboard settings you can customize. Available options and their location can differ between devices. See Samsung’s keyboard settings guide.

Change the keyboard’s appearance
To change the keyboard’s colors or theme, look for a theme or appearance option in Samsung Keyboard settings. Choose an available design and check it in a text field to see how it looks while typing. The specific theme choices depend on your device and software version.
Make the Samsung keyboard bigger or smaller

In Samsung Keyboard settings, open Style and Layout > Size and transparency, if that option appears on your device.

Drag the handles around the keyboard to adjust its size.

Tap Done or the on-screen confirmation control if your device displays one, then try typing to check the fit.

Samsung’s guide describes transparency controls when the keyboard is in Floating mode. The menu path and controls may be different on other models; see Samsung’s guide to keyboard settings.
Change the keyboard layout or position
Open Mode in Samsung Keyboard settings to choose a layout that suits how you hold the device. Samsung describes these modes:

Floating: The keyboard becomes a smaller popup that you can position separately. Samsung’s guide also associates this mode with transparency settings.

If you want a different set of keyboard features or themes, you can install another keyboard app rather than only adjusting Samsung Keyboard. Samsung says keyboard apps can be downloaded from the Play Store or Galaxy Store. To switch the active keyboard, go to Settings > General management > Keyboard list and default > Default keyboard, then choose the keyboard you want.

For example, Gboard has its own theme controls: open its keyboard menu, select a theme, and tap Apply. Google notes that some steps depend on your Android version. See Google’s Gboard theme instructions. Switching to another app changes the keyboard software and the features it offers; it is not simply a new Samsung Keyboard theme.
