If you mean smoother-looking movement, adjust TruMotion in the TV’s picture settings. If you mean the actual frame rate coming from a console or PC, change the source’s output settings and check that your specific TV model and HDMI path support the format. TruMotion processes the picture; it does not make a game or video source render more frames per second.

First, identify which setting you need

“Frame rate” can refer to three different things. They affect motion in different ways, so changing one will not necessarily change the others.

Term What it means Where you adjust it
Frame rate (fps) How many frames the source content or device produces each second. Usually in the game, console, PC, or video app’s settings.
Refresh rate (Hz) How often the TV refreshes its display. It is related to, but not identical to, the source frame rate. Depends on the TV, source, connection, and supported picture mode.
TruMotion LG picture processing intended to make movement appear smoother. In the TV’s picture settings, when available and permitted by the current mode.
VRR Variable refresh rate behavior that synchronizes a compatible display with a compatible gaming source. In Game Optimizer on the documented webOS 22 route.

For the TV-side smoothing setting, follow the TruMotion steps below. For an actual higher input rate or variable refresh, configure the source and verify compatibility rather than relying on TruMotion.

Adjust TruMotion for smoother-looking movement

  1. Press the Settings button on the LG remote. If your remote has no Settings button, press Home and select the on-screen Settings icon.
  2. On LG’s documented webOS 22 interface, go to Settings → All Settings → Picture → Advanced Settings → Clarity → TruMotion.
  3. Choose an available motion option. Depending on the model and picture mode, choices may include cinematic, natural, or smooth motion. Try the options with the content you watch and keep the one whose appearance you prefer; results can vary by content and model.
  4. If TruMotion is unavailable, check whether the TV is in Game mode. LG says TruMotion cannot be set while Game mode is active.

Menu routes vary by generation. LG lists these example paths for older interfaces:

LG notes that its guide images and menus may differ from a particular TV, and TruMotion is not included on every model. Check your model’s manual if a setting is missing.

Enable VRR or G-Sync for compatible gaming

VRR is separate from TruMotion: it coordinates refresh behavior between supported gaming hardware and the TV; it does not raise the frame rate a game renders. On LG’s documented webOS 22 route, select Settings → All Settings → General → Game Optimizer → Game → VRR & G-Sync → On.

If you want a higher actual frame rate from a console or PC

Start at the source. Check the game’s graphics or performance mode and the console or PC’s video-output settings. Then verify that the TV model, HDMI input, connection path, and selected resolution support the desired signal. A TV picture setting cannot make a game render faster than its software and hardware allow.

LG’s product page for the UK-market B4 lists 4K at 120 fps over HDMI. That is a specification for that product example, not a universal maximum for every LG OLED TV. Confirm your own model’s supported formats before choosing a target rate.

Troubleshoot a low frame rate or unavailable setting

TruMotion is greyed out or missing

  • Check whether Game mode is active; LG says TruMotion cannot be set in that mode.
  • Confirm the setting exists for your model, software version, and current picture mode. LG warns that menus and feature availability vary.
  • Use the route for your webOS generation as a guide, then consult the model-specific manual if labels differ.

A game appears to run below 60 Hz

LG’s July 2026 Xbox and PS5 troubleshooting pages recommend checking the console configuration for their described cases. The Xbox guidance discusses turning off certain console options in that situation; the PS5 guidance points to the console’s ALLM setting. These are case-specific troubleshooting suggestions, not universal fixes. LG also says TruMotion may help smooth the presentation of some low-frame-rate game output, but it does not increase the game’s rendered frame rate and cannot be selected while Game mode is active.

VRR or G-Sync will not turn on

  • Check that the TV and gaming hardware support the feature.
  • Confirm the source is connected by HDMI and the TV’s Screen Mode is set to Game Optimizer on the documented webOS 22 route.
  • Check the source device’s settings and the game’s support for the intended display mode.

Check the exact TV model before choosing a target

There is no single maximum frame rate or universal menu route for all LG OLED TVs. The relevant settings and supported signal formats depend on the model, region, software, source device, and connection. Look up the documentation for your TV and source together before treating a particular resolution, refresh rate, or feature as supported.
