At CES 2026, an EE Times interview with Sam Geha, Infineon Technologies’ executive vice president of IoT, compute and wireless, focused on edge AI, intelligent IoT and Wi-Fi 7 devices designed for tri-band operation with 20-MHz channels. The available interview overview names those subjects but does not provide a transcript, so the technical details below are attributed to Infineon’s published material rather than presented as Geha’s exact words. Read the EE Times interview overview.
What edge AI means for an IoT device
Edge AI runs at least some AI processing on the device itself instead of relying entirely on a remote cloud service. In Infineon’s description, that lets an endpoint process data and make decisions in real time. The company says this approach can reduce latency and provide stronger privacy than cloud-only processing; those are potential benefits, not guarantees for every device or system. Local processing does not necessarily remove the cloud from a product. A device might make time-sensitive decisions locally while still sending selected data elsewhere for storage, analysis or other services. The key design choice is which tasks happen on-device and which depend on an external connection.
Why intelligent IoT depends on more than an AI model
An AI-enabled connected device is a system: it needs compute to run models and handle interfaces, wireless connectivity to communicate, and security measures to protect the device and its data. Power, software, development tools and partner-supported solutions also shape what can be built and deployed. Infineon presents microcontrollers, power, security, software and AIROC wireless connectivity as parts of its portfolio, alongside AI models and development support. That is a description of the company’s offerings, not a claim that every IoT product uses every component.

Designers must balance compute capability and response time against energy use and cost. They also need to decide what data should remain local, what can leave the device, and how updates and credentials will be protected. Infineon points to measures such as secure provisioning, secure boot, trusted updates and encryption as relevant device protections. Infineon’s edge AI overview.

What the Wi-Fi 7, 20-MHz-channel discussion signals
The EE Times overview identifies Infineon Wi-Fi 7 tri-band devices for 20-MHz channels as a topic of the conversation. A 20-MHz channel is a relatively narrow channel width; the cited overview does not provide a product model, a specification sheet or enough detail to infer the devices’ full capabilities. The wording identifies the interview topic, not a broad performance guarantee for Wi-Fi 7 equipment.

Infineon’s reported Wi-Fi interference demonstration
In a separate CES demonstration description, Infineon says its Wi-Fi 7 IoT demo switched from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz in about half a millisecond during interference and remained connected, while the Wi-Fi 6 comparison device disconnected. This is Infineon’s report of one demonstration under the conditions shown, not an independent benchmark or evidence that a product will behave the same way in every home, office or industrial environment. The post does not establish results across other devices, interference patterns or network configurations. Infineon’s CES demonstration post.

Infineon’s CES post also describes automotive Ethernet demonstrations at 10 Gb/s and sensor demonstrations using 3D Hall sensors, CAPSENSE and magnetic switches. These are company-reported demonstrations; the post does not, by itself, establish how the components perform in a finished customer product. Infineon’s CES demonstration post.
