Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →For a CaptureKit screenshot, use wait_for_selector when a specific, stable element tells you the content you need has appeared. Use delay for a fixed pause when there is no dependable selector or you need a short settling interval. “Wait-for-timeout” is not the documented parameter name: CaptureKit calls its fixed wait delay, in seconds.
How the two waits differ
| Option | What it waits for | Use it when | Limit |
|---|---|---|---|
wait_for_selector |
A specified page element to appear. | The content you need has a stable CSS selector and that element’s appearance is a useful readiness signal. | Presence does not establish that every script, request, animation, or lazy-loaded region has finished. |
delay |
A fixed amount of elapsed time. | You have no reliable selector, or a short extra pause is sufficient. | CaptureKit documents a range of 0–10 seconds and a default of 0. A delay does not confirm that the page content is ready. |
These controls respond to different signals: one is tied to a page condition; the other is only a timer. A fixed pause may be longer than necessary on a fast page or end before a slow page is ready. That follows from how the options work; CaptureKit does not publish comparative test results showing one is faster or more reliable.
Choose a readiness condition that matches the content
Use a selector for the specific content you need
Choose an element that appears when the relevant content arrives, rather than an unrelated element that may already be present. For example, if a page renders a results panel after a JavaScript request, wait for that panel rather than the site header. CaptureKit documents waiting for an element to appear, but its reference does not specify what happens if the selector never appears. See the Capture (Screenshot) API reference for the current parameter definition.
Use a delay only as a time-based pause
Set delay to a value from 0 through 10 seconds. This can provide a simple settling interval, but it cannot tell whether the target content loaded; it waits the same amount regardless of page speed. Avoid treating a particular delay as a guarantee of readiness.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Use wait_until for a page lifecycle or network condition
CaptureKit separately documents wait_until values domcontentloaded, load, networkidle0, and networkidle2. These describe page lifecycle or network states, not the presence of a specific content element. Select one when that broader condition is what matters. CaptureKit’s monitoring example combines networkidle2 with a two-second delay, but it is an example configuration, not a universally recommended setting: How to Track Web Page Changes with Automated Screenshots.
Set the wait in a CaptureKit screenshot request
The Capture endpoint is GET /v1/capture. It requires a webpage URL and documents screenshot options including wait_for_selector, delay, and wait_until. Authenticate according to CaptureKit’s Introduction. The following request illustrates the documented parameter names; substitute your key, target URL, and a selector that exists on your page:

For a fixed pause instead, replace the selector parameter with, for example, --data-urlencode "delay=2". For a lifecycle condition, use --data-urlencode "wait_until=networkidle2". These are alternatives or distinct conditions to choose deliberately; adding a delay does not turn a selector or lifecycle condition into proof that all page activity is complete. Each Capture call is listed as costing one credit in the endpoint reference.
Check request timeouts separately
Page readiness settings are not the same as the request’s server-side limit. CaptureKit’s official Timeouts documentation says real-time API calls have a hard 60-second server-side timeout and recommends async mode for requests expected to take longer. If a request may exceed that limit, address its execution mode and client timeout separately; increasing a page delay does not override the server-side cap.

Troubleshoot a capture that is not ready
- The screenshot misses the dynamic content: Check that the selector targets the element containing that content and that its appearance is an appropriate signal. If the content depends on a broader load or network condition, consider a documented
wait_untilvalue instead. - A fixed delay still captures too early: A timer cannot detect readiness and is limited to 10 seconds in the reference. Prefer a meaningful selector or lifecycle condition when one is available.
- The selector does not appear: Verify the selector against the rendered page and confirm that it identifies an element the page actually creates. The CaptureKit reference does not state the exact failure behavior when a selector is absent, so do not assume a specific error or fallback.
- The request times out: Distinguish page waiting from the real-time request’s 60-second server-side timeout. For work expected to exceed it, CaptureKit points to async mode in its timeout documentation.
- You are using “wait-for-timeout” as a parameter: Use the documented name
delayfor a fixed pause. The Capture reference does not show a parameter namedwait_for_timeout.
