Indian exam portals do not share a guaranteed layout or selector, and a publicly visible page is not proof that automated collection is permitted. Check the terms and official guidance for each portal before running a batch.
Plan a portal-specific batch
India’s results gateway describes results from central and state examination bodies, universities, councils, and agencies, and links to Terms and Policies. That does not establish a common page design or permission to automate every linked portal. Check the current rules and any official download or API route for each result source before collecting data. See the Government of India results gateway.
For each portal, identify the exact URLs, fields you need, and a success condition that proves the expected result view has loaded. Use a reviewed, bounded list; do not treat “bulk” as permission for high-volume requests or a reason to bypass access controls. The sample below deliberately uses a placeholder selector: inspect each portal’s current markup and configure it separately.
Build a Selenium script with per-URL outcomes
Install Selenium and a compatible browser driver in your Python environment. The script below uses Chrome, explicit waits, a finite navigation timeout, a per-page audit record, and an optional PNG screenshot on success. The selector and timeout values are examples, not tested settings for any particular exam portal.

Replace the sample domains with URLs you are authorized to visit and replace YOUR_RESULT_SELECTOR with a selector verified for the relevant result page. If different portals use different structures, use a per-portal configuration or adapter rather than assuming one selector works across all URLs. The output manifest records a status per page so a failed item is not mistaken for an empty result.
Wait for the result, not just navigation
Selenium navigation waits for a document readiness state, but JavaScript may add or update result content afterward. Use an explicit, condition-based wait for a result heading, row, status message, or other marker that means the expected view is actually ready. Selenium documents WebDriverWait and expected conditions; its guidance warns that mixing implicit and explicit waits can produce unpredictable timeout behavior. See Selenium waits.

The example uses the default normal page-load strategy. Selenium’s browser options describe normal as waiting for complete, eager as waiting for interactive, and none as not blocking on readiness. A faster strategy can move past nonessential resources sooner, but only use it when the explicit result condition is strong enough to prevent premature capture. See Selenium browser options.
A fixed sleep may be useful for deliberate pacing, but it is not a reliable substitute for a condition: short delays can capture too early, while long delays waste time on pages that are already ready. Set bounded page-load and result-wait timeouts appropriate to your environment; the sample’s 30- and 15-second values are illustrative only. Selenium exposes page-load timeout controls in its Python WebDriver API.

Choose what evidence to save
Extracted text or fields
Store only the fields required for the task, along with the requested URL, resolved URL, title, timestamp, status, and an error or timeout detail where relevant. Keep sensitive exam information out of logs unless it is necessary, restrict access to output files, and set a retention period suited to the purpose.
PNG screenshot
driver.save_screenshot(path) saves a PNG of the current browser window. It is useful as visual evidence, but it does not prove that the entire page, every image, or all data has loaded or is visible in the captured viewport. Name the file so it can be matched to its manifest record. The method is documented in the Python WebDriver API.

Downloads from a portal
If a portal provides an official downloadable result file, follow that route only as allowed by the portal. With Selenium Grid, managed downloads have additional behavior: a file listing is an immediate snapshot, not proof that a download has completed. Consult Selenium Grid configuration for the remote-download details relevant to your setup.
Handle differences between portals
- Different layouts: maintain portal-specific selectors and success conditions; recheck them when the page changes.
- Result content delayed after navigation: wait on a result-specific condition rather than assuming the document load means the result is ready.
- Element visible but not found: inspect whether it is inside an iframe. Switch into the correct frame before locating it, then return to default content when finished. See Selenium frame interactions.
- Navigation appears stuck on ancillary resources: consider
eageronly if a robust explicit condition will still confirm the result content. A faster navigation strategy without a sufficient follow-up wait can make captures flaky. - Unexpected page, CAPTCHA, login prompt, or access denial: record the state and stop or use the portal’s official process. Do not attempt to defeat access controls.
Troubleshoot common failures

Run batches carefully
Use bounded batches and modest sequential pacing that fit the specific portal’s stated rules. There is no established universal request rate or authorization rule for Indian exam-result portals. Prefer an official API or download route where offered, and recheck the relevant portal’s terms and technical guidance when the workflow is updated. A screenshot or extracted record may contain personal exam information, so minimize what you retain and control who can access it.
