The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card can make sense for frequent travelers who want straightforward rewards and can use its travel benefits: it earns 2 miles per dollar on most purchases and 5 miles per dollar on hotels, vacation rentals, and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel. Its $95 annual fee is easier to justify if you use the current one-time $300 first-year stays credit, but that introductory credit does not recur. The card offers useful travel-related perks, not a blanket package of luxury benefits.
What does the Venture card cost, and what is the current offer?
For U.S. applicants, Capital One listed a $95 annual fee and a variable purchase APR of 19.49%–28.49% on its product page, checked October 7, 2026. The APR matters if you carry a balance: interest can outweigh the value of miles, so this card is best evaluated as a rewards card for purchases you can pay off.
As of that same check, Capital One advertised 75,000 bonus miles after $4,000 in purchases within the first three months from account opening, plus a one-time $300 Capital One Travel stays credit for hotel and vacation-rental bookings during the first cardholder year. These are time-sensitive offer terms, not permanent benefits. Check the live application page for current availability, eligibility, deadlines, and account-standing requirements before applying. How does earning miles work?
Everyday purchases
The card earns 2 miles per dollar on every purchase, according to Capital One. That uncapped base rate is simple to use: you do not need to track rotating categories to earn it.

Bookings through Capital One Travel
Hotels, vacation rentals, and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel earn 5 miles per dollar. The higher rate is tied to the booking channel, so compare the portal’s price, terms, and convenience with booking directly before choosing it solely for rewards. Capital One also says its flight price-prediction feature saves an average of 15%; that is an issuer-reported promotional claim, not a guaranteed saving for an individual trip. What travel benefits come with the card?
- First-year stays credit: The currently advertised $300 credit applies once during the first cardholder year to hotel and vacation-rental bookings through Capital One Travel. It is not an annual recurring credit.
- Lifestyle Collection: Capital One advertises a $50 experience credit on each qualifying Lifestyle Collection stay. Its value depends on booking an eligible stay and using the credit under its terms.
- Global Entry or TSA PreCheck: Capital One advertises up to $120 toward an application fee. This is a conditional credit, not a cash benefit every cardholder receives.
- Hertz Five Star: Eligible cardholders may receive Hertz Five Star status, subject to eligibility and enrollment terms.
- Foreign transactions: Capital One lists no foreign transaction fees.
These benefits can help reduce the effective cost for travelers whose plans align with them, but their advertised amounts should not be treated as guaranteed savings. Check the card’s current terms to confirm eligibility and how each benefit is triggered. Capital One Venture card page

How can you redeem Venture miles?
Capital One lists several redemption routes: travel booked through Capital One Travel, eligible recent travel purchases, cash back, gift cards, and transfers to more than 15 travel loyalty programs. It does not establish one fixed value for every mile across those choices. Redemption rates can vary and change, so compare the value and restrictions of the option you intend to use rather than assuming miles have a universal cash value. For transfers, Capital One’s guide sets a minimum transfer of 1,000 miles. Once miles move to a partner, that program’s rules govern their value and expiration. A transfer may suit someone with a specific loyalty-program redemption in mind; it is less flexible than keeping miles in the card account. Capital One miles transfer guide

Is rental-car coverage enough protection?
Not on its own. Capital One describes rental-car coverage for eligible Venture cards as secondary: the renter’s personal auto insurance applies before the card benefit. Coverage depends on the card’s network and version and is subject to the specific benefits guide, exclusions, and claim process. It is not liability insurance or comprehensive rental protection. Check the guide for your exact card before declining other coverage or relying on this benefit. Capital One rental-car coverage help page

Capital One’s comparison page lists VentureOne as the no-annual-fee alternative in the same card family. The relevant trade-off is the fee versus the base earning rate and benefits—not simply whether one card has an annual fee.
Rank #4
| Card | Annual fee | General purchases | What to weigh |
|---|---|---|---|
| Capital One Venture | $95 | 2 miles per dollar | Higher base earning rate, plus the travel benefits and booking-specific earning described above. |
| Capital One VentureOne | $0 | 1.25 miles per dollar | No annual fee, but a lower general-purchase earning rate. |
Venture is the stronger fit if its additional earning and benefits are worth more to you than the fee. VentureOne may suit someone who wants the same broad miles framework without paying an annual fee. Capital One classifies Venture as a card for excellent credit; approval is not guaranteed. Best Value
Who is the Venture card worth it for?
- It may be worth considering if you put substantial spending on the card, value 2 miles per dollar without category management, and can use the first-year stays credit or other travel benefits on bookings you would make anyway.
- Look closely at the costs if you rarely book through Capital One Travel, cannot use the credits, or would prefer a no-fee card. The one-time stays credit can improve the first-year math, but it does not establish the card’s value in later years.
- Compare redemption options before applying if you expect to transfer miles. The useful value depends on available partner awards and the destination program’s rules, not just the number of miles earned.
- Avoid carrying a balance if possible. Rewards do not make high-interest borrowing economical.
