Messenger Kids setup uses a parent’s Facebook username and password; it does not require a Facebook account for the child. Then check the app, device, and any older child-device session.
1. Use the Facebook account that manages your child’s Messenger Kids account
During setup, a parent authenticates the child’s device with the parent’s own Facebook username and password. Meta described that step in its Messenger Kids launch announcement. Use the Facebook account belonging to the parent or guardian who manages the child’s account—not a separate login you created for the child.
This authorization step does not create a Facebook account for the child. If another parent or guardian manages the account, ask them to try the authorization with their Facebook credentials.
2. Fix the parent’s Facebook sign-in first
If Facebook rejects the adult’s password or the parent cannot access their account, resolve that Facebook account problem before troubleshooting Messenger Kids. Use Facebook’s account recovery flow for the adult account, then try authorizing the child’s device again.

Messenger Kids relies on the parent’s Facebook credentials for setup. There is no separate child password to reset as a workaround for a parent account that cannot sign in.
3. Update Messenger Kids, close the app, and restart the device
Check the device’s app store for a Messenger Kids update. Then fully close the app and reopen it; if the login still fails, restart the device and try again.

Meta’s general Messenger troubleshooting guidance includes updating and restarting the app or device. That guidance is not specific to Messenger Kids, so these are low-risk checks rather than a guaranteed login fix.
4. Check for an old child-device session in Parent Dashboard
Meta says parents can view devices where a child is logged in and remotely log the child out through the Parent Dashboard in Facebook. If you see an old or unused device, log the child out of that session, then try Messenger Kids on the device they currently use.

If the parent’s Facebook account works, the app and device have been restarted, and an old session is not the cause, use Meta’s official help or in-app problem-reporting option. Meta’s general Messenger troubleshooting page includes reporting a problem, but it does not establish a dedicated Messenger Kids login support address or a response time.
