Usually, yes. YouTube’s published membership rules describe recurring monthly payments for channel perks; they do not identify an individual live stream’s uptime as a condition of membership billing. So a stream going offline by itself is not documented as stopping members’ recurring payments. That is not a guarantee that every outage is harmless: memberships can be paused, turned off, or lost if the channel loses access to the feature.
Membership payments and livestream ads are separate
A YouTube channel membership is a recurring payment for perks such as badges and emoji, rather than payment for each minute a stream is live. YouTube describes memberships as part of its fan-funding features, subject to its [channel memberships guidance] and [Commerce Product terms]. Its published rules do not say that a particular livestream must remain online for recurring membership billing to continue.
Live-stream advertising works differently. Eligible monetized streams may show ads, but YouTube says an ad slot is not guaranteed to serve. If the stream is unavailable, the live opportunity to show ads is unavailable too; that does not establish what a channel would otherwise have earned. YouTube lists ads and memberships as distinct monetization options in its [monetization features guidance] and [live-stream ads guidance].
What can pause or end membership billing
Memberships enter paused mode
In paused mode, the channel cannot monetize with memberships or deliver member perks. Member billing, the billing cycle, and access to perks are paused. This is a membership-feature state, not simply a report that one stream is offline. See YouTube’s [membership pause and termination guidance].

The creator turns memberships off
Turning off memberships cancels members’ recurring payments. If the creator enables memberships again, viewers must choose to join again; re-enabling does not automatically restart their subscriptions. YouTube explains this in its [membership pause and termination guidance].
The channel loses membership access
If a channel is terminated or otherwise loses access to memberships, recurring payments and perk access end immediately, according to YouTube’s [membership pause and termination guidance]. The reviewed guidance does not establish a specific outage duration or pattern that triggers this outcome.

A member cancels
A cancellation means the member is not charged again, but the member keeps access to the badge and creator perks until the current billing period ends. A cancellation therefore need not remove that person from access immediately. YouTube documents this in its [cancel or pause a membership guidance].
How the billing cycle and member counts work
YouTube describes membership billing as monthly, with billing periods of 28, 30, or 31 days depending on the calendar month. Its guidance also says creators receive 70% of membership revenue after applicable taxes and fees are deducted. That is YouTube’s published share figure, not a prediction of a creator’s net earnings after every transaction-specific factor.

In YouTube Studio, the Memberships tab’s total-member count can include canceled members who retain access for the remainder of their paid period; active members excludes canceled members. The Memberships tab reports membership transactions, while Analytics’ Transactions Revenue card includes transactions such as new sign-ups and recurrences. Consult YouTube’s [membership reporting and billing guidance] when interpreting these figures.
Check whether your memberships are still active
- Open YouTube Studio and check Earn → Memberships. Review membership status, member counts, cancellations, and billing-period revenue. Do not treat total members as identical to active members: the total can include canceled memberships that still have access through the paid period.
- Open Analytics → Revenue. Review the Transactions Revenue card for membership transactions, including sign-ups and recurrences. This is different from estimating revenue from the live stream’s online status.
- Check the channel’s membership state. Confirm memberships have not entered paused mode, been turned off, or become unavailable because the channel lost access to the feature.
- Separate membership activity from ad results. Membership transactions reflect the membership feature and member billing; live ad delivery depends on a monetized live stream and whether an ad is actually served.
What an offline status does—and does not—tell you
- It does tell you that the live viewing and ad opportunity from that stream are unavailable while it is offline.
- It does not, by itself, show that channel memberships were paused or canceled. Check the Memberships area and transaction reports for the channel’s actual state.
- It does not establish guaranteed membership revenue through every outage, including long or repeated outages. YouTube’s published guidance describes billing and feature states but does not promise immunity from every platform effect in every outage scenario.
- It does not predict ad earnings. Ads are not guaranteed to serve even when an eligible monetized live stream is available.
Keeping a 24/7 YouTube stream online
If your goal is to reduce interruptions to the live viewing and ad opportunity, you can run your own streaming setup or use a cloud service. The choice does not change the membership rules: membership billing depends on membership status and feature availability, while live-stream ad delivery is separate.
