Yes. YouTube Live accepts encoder feeds at up to 60 fps, so a continuous 50 fps feed from a pre-recorded sports playlist is within its documented range. The playback and encoder chain must actually maintain 50 fps, and you should test it in YouTube Live Control Room before broadcasting. Compatibility does not grant permission to rebroadcast the footage: confirm rights for the specific recordings and territory first.
What 50fps compatibility means
YouTube’s live encoder settings allow frame rates up to 60 fps, putting 50 fps within the documented range. YouTube also lists 50 fps among common video frame rates and recommends encoding and uploading content at the frame rate at which it was recorded. These guidelines support keeping genuine 50 fps sports footage at 50 fps through playback and encoding; converting lower-frame-rate video to 50 fps does not create additional real motion detail.
The YouTube settings page recommends automatic resolution and frame-rate detection by default. Its documented maximum is not a guarantee that every player, encoder, computer, or connection can sustain a particular playlist at 50 fps. Test the full chain with representative material and check the preview and stream health in Live Control Room.
Prepare the playlist and encoder
Choose a playback and encoding path
A playlist needs to be played through a software or hardware encoder that sends YouTube a continuous live feed. YouTube documents both encoder categories; dedicated hardware is optional, not a general requirement. Confirm that the particular playback and encoder setup can loop the playlist and hold a 50 fps output. If considering a hardware encoder, check its exact model’s source inputs, supported output frame rate, codec and transport compatibility, and how it handles looping.

Set frame rate, resolution, and bitrate
Keep the output at the source’s 50 fps when the recording is 50 fps and the entire chain supports it. YouTube recommends automatic detection. If you need manual resolution selection, YouTube says to create a custom stream key and enable manual settings; follow the current Live Control Room and encoder instructions for your chosen setup.
Choose a codec and bitrate supported by the ingest route, resolution, and frame rate. YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for general RTMP/RTMPS encoding and provides bitrate recommendations by format. Its H.264 table gives 14 Mbps for 1080p30 and 17 Mbps for 1080p60. Those are nearby reference rows, not a specific recommendation for 1080p50; do not present either figure as a bespoke 50 fps setting. Choose a supported setting appropriate to your output and test it with the actual footage.

Test before going live
- Set up the stream in YouTube Live Control Room. Prepare the event and connect the encoder using YouTube’s current encoder setup guidance.
- Run representative footage. Test with sports motion and audio similar to the planned playlist, not a static screen or unrelated clip.
- Inspect the preview. Confirm that the picture and audio appear as expected before starting the public broadcast.
- Check stream health and messages. YouTube recommends monitoring these during the event; if the feed is unstable, reduce the quality to a level your connection and encoder can sustain.
- Verify continuity. Confirm that playback advances and loops as intended and that the encoder keeps sending a continuous feed at the expected frame rate.
Confirm rights before broadcasting
Technical ability to send a 50 fps feed is separate from permission to rebroadcast a sports recording. The event, broadcaster, rights holder, license, and territory matter, and frame-rate guidance cannot establish whether a particular playlist is authorized. Confirm that you have the necessary rights for the footage and the intended territory before streaming.
