Yes. You can keep a YouTube music channel live around the clock by sending a continuous feed through a software or hardware encoder. The difficult parts are keeping the broadcast running reliably, understanding YouTube’s archive limit, and securing rights for every recording and composition in the rotation. YouTube automatically archives streams under 12 hours; streams longer than that may not be captured at all, so a 24/7 broadcast should not be treated as a guaranteed full-length replay.
What you need to run a 24/7 music stream
You need a YouTube channel eligible for live streaming, a video-and-audio feed, an encoder to send it, and the rights required for every track and recording you broadcast. YouTube’s eligibility guidance requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Check the current requirements in YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
A 24/7 setup also needs a plan for reliable playback, power, network connectivity, encoder supervision, and recovery if the feed stops. Those are operational requirements, not a guarantee of uninterrupted service: YouTube’s setup guidance does not promise that any particular connection or encoder will remain live continuously.
How to start the broadcast
- Check channel eligibility. Verify the channel and confirm it has no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days.
- Create or select a stream. In YouTube Studio, open Go Live and create a stream or select one you have already set up.
- Connect the encoder. Copy the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio into the encoder’s server and key fields. Keep the key private; anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Start sending the feed. Start the encoder, then check the YouTube preview or watch page to confirm that audio and video are arriving as expected.
- Monitor the operation. Check playback and audio, and, if you are recording locally, confirm that the local archive file is growing. Arrange a recovery plan for source playback, power, connectivity, and encoder failures.
You can use software encoding or dedicated hardware. YouTube documents both encoder workflows and does not require expensive equipment. Software avoids buying a separate encoder but depends on a computer and its operating conditions; hardware can be a dedicated part of a setup, but is not a prerequisite. No particular hardware model or universal restart schedule is established by YouTube’s guidance.

Will YouTube save a 24/7 livestream?
Do not count on YouTube saving one complete archive of a continuous 24-hour broadcast. YouTube’s current Help guidance, accessed October 7, 2026, says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, while streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. The 12-hour figure is an operational threshold, not a promise about how a particular stream will be processed. See YouTube’s livestream archiving guidance.
If a replay matters, record locally and decide how you will handle the archive before going live. Options include stopping and starting shorter broadcasts to create separate streams, or keeping local recordings to edit and publish separately. Shorter broadcasts may create more manageable archives, but they interrupt a single continuous live transmission; YouTube does not specify a universal restart schedule that guarantees a particular archive outcome.

Check music rights before broadcasting
Having an audio file—or finding it online with a “free” label—does not by itself establish permission to use it in a YouTube livestream. Rights may involve both the musical composition and the sound recording, and permissions depend on the tracks, territories, intended use, and license terms. YouTube’s livestream terms put responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation, including music rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. Read YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions.
Rights checklist
- Inventory every song and recording in the rotation. Confirm the permissions cover livestreaming on YouTube, the territories where the stream may be viewed, and continuous use.
- If you plan to monetize, check that the license also allows the intended commercial or monetized use.
- Keep copies of licenses and related permissions, and prepare a fallback playlist of tracks whose permitted use is clear.
- If a rights owner uses Content ID, ask whether your channel must be added to its allowlist for the licensed music.
- When the rights, territory, or license scope is unclear, confirm the details with the rights holder or a qualified adviser before going live.
YouTube’s platform guidance cannot determine whether a particular license is sufficient for your catalog and country, or resolve a copyright ownership dispute. Platform scanning is not proof that a use is licensed.

Why licensed music can still be interrupted
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can trigger a warning, a placeholder image, an interruption, or termination. A stream may still be interrupted even when the music is licensed if the rights owner uses Content ID and has not allowlisted the channel. Contact the owner or administrator about allowlisting when applicable. Archived streams may receive Content ID claims after the broadcast ends. See YouTube’s Content ID guidance for live streams.
Do not assume a clean start means a clean archive: claims can arrive after the live transmission. Keep license records available and check YouTube Studio for notices or claims.

Creator Music and other music sources
YouTube’s Creator Music guidance describes tracks and revenue-sharing options for long-form uploaded videos, not livestreams. It is not a shortcut to licensing music for a live broadcast. YouTube says paid Creator Music licenses were deprecated on August 10, 2026; existing paid licenses remain in effect until their term ends and cannot be renewed under the existing terms. Neither point changes the guidance that Creator Music does not cover live streams. Details are in YouTube’s Creator Music usage guidance and its Creator Music license update.

YouTube identifies its Audio Library as a source of music and sound effects, but you still need to follow the applicable license conditions. For third-party libraries, verify the actual license for livestreaming and the intended territories; a “free” description alone does not prevent a claim. See YouTube’s Audio Library guidance.

Quick Recap
Troubleshooting a continuous stream
- YouTube does not receive the feed: Check that the encoder uses the stream URL and key copied from the selected stream in YouTube Studio, and confirm that the key has not been changed or exposed.
- The preview has no sound or picture: Check the source playback and encoder input, then verify both audio and video in the preview before relying on the broadcast.
- The live feed is interrupted after a copyright warning: Review the notice, confirm the relevant track and permissions, and contact the rights owner about Content ID allowlisting if the music is licensed.
- The broadcast ends unexpectedly: Check the source player, encoder, power, and network, then use your recovery plan to restart the feed. YouTube’s guidance does not guarantee uninterrupted service.
- The full-day replay is missing or incomplete: YouTube may not capture streams exceeding 12 hours. Use a local recording when a complete archive is important, and plan shorter broadcasts if separate YouTube archives are needed.
- A claim appears after the stream: Check YouTube Studio and compare the claim with your license records. A post-stream claim does not by itself establish whether your use was licensed; resolve the issue with the rights holder or through the applicable YouTube process.
