No—not just because you can play a song in Spotify. A Spotify subscription does not give you permission to rebroadcast its music in a 24/7 YouTube livestream. You need the necessary rights for the music and the live use, and YouTube may still interrupt a stream when it detects third-party content.

Why a Spotify subscription is not enough

Spotify’s US Terms and Conditions grant “limited, non-exclusive, revocable permission to make personal, non-commercial use of the Spotify Service and the Content.” Spotify’s support guidance likewise limits its service to personal, non-commercial use and says it cannot be broadcast or played publicly from a business. That access is not a broadcast license for YouTube. Spotify Terms and Conditions of Use and Spotify support: public or commercial use.

YouTube places the licensing responsibility on the person providing the livestream. Its terms require the provider to have necessary rights for the live content, including music licensing rights from artists, labels, publishers and other royalty participants, and to maintain applicable licenses for the stream’s duration and territory. Crediting the artist, disabling monetization or adding a disclaimer does not replace those permissions. YouTube Livestream terms and conditions.

What can happen if you stream Spotify music anyway?

YouTube scans livestreams for third-party content. If it identifies material, it may replace the video with a placeholder, warn you, or interrupt or terminate the stream. These are separate platform-enforcement consequences from whether you have permission under the music rights. YouTube Help: live-streaming restrictions.

Even a license does not necessarily prevent an automated interruption. YouTube advises creators who have licensed third-party content to ask the rights holder to add their channel to its Content ID allowlist. Without that step, detection may still interrupt a licensed stream. Confirm the allowlisting process with the rights holder before going live.

What rights a 24/7 music stream may need

A song can involve distinct rights in the sound recording and in the underlying musical composition. Recording rights are commonly held by labels; composition rights may be managed by publishers, performing-rights organizations or collecting societies. The relevant owners and administrators can vary by track and territory. YouTube’s overview explains the distinction: YouTube Help: copyright on YouTube.

Before using a track, get written confirmation that your permission covers the actual use—not merely listening, downloading or ordinary video uploads. Check whether it expressly covers:

  • Livestreaming on YouTube, including continuous or 24/7 playback.
  • The countries or territories where the stream will be available.
  • The relevant sound-recording and composition rights.
  • Monetization and archived-video playback, if you plan to enable either.
  • Content ID handling, including how to have your channel allowlisted.

Music alternatives for a continuous YouTube stream

Use music you created and control

Original music can be an option if you control all relevant rights, including any contributions from collaborators, performers or sample sources. Keep documentation of those rights and check YouTube’s live-content requirements.

Use YouTube Audio Library tracks

YouTube recommends its Audio Library as a source of copyright-safe music. Check the terms attached to each track and confirm they cover your intended livestream, territories and any monetization or archive use. Do not assume that a track’s availability automatically answers every licensing question. YouTube Help: use music and sound effects from the Audio Library.

Use a third-party licensed catalog

Evaluate the specific track license rather than relying on a catalog’s general “copyright-free” label. Confirm live and continuous use, territory, the rights covered and the owner’s Content ID allowlisting process. YouTube’s guidance recommends checking third-party license terms and coordinating with rights holders when a licensed stream is detected.

Do not rely on Creator Music for livestream clearance

YouTube’s Creator Music FAQ says the service currently does not support licensing for live content. Its track-use guidance limits Creator Music licenses and revenue-sharing tracks to long-form videos, not livestreams. YouTube Help: Creator Music FAQ.
