Recharts’ documentation describes a React charting library that renders charts as SVG, but the sources reviewed do not document direct React Native support or an official native adapter. That means you should not assume Recharts will work in a React Native app—or that adding react-native-svg will make it work. If you need charts rendered natively, choose a library that explicitly documents React Native support and verify it against your app’s exact setup.
Why Recharts is not a drop-in React Native chart library
Recharts describes itself as a chart library for React applications, built around React and D3. Its README presents a React package workflow and an example assembled from chart, axis, tooltip, grid, and line components. The project’s documented installation is npm install recharts react-is; its README says to use a react-is version matching the installed React version. Recharts README
The rendering details matter for React Native. Recharts’ customization guide says charts use SVG and accept SVG presentation props such as fill and stroke. It also distinguishes Tooltip and Legend, which render HTML and accept CSS style objects. These documented surfaces reflect web-rendering assumptions rather than a documented React Native rendering path. Recharts customization guide
React Native’s rendering environment is not simply a browser DOM. A package that uses React components and SVG on the web does not become a native chart library merely because a project also installs a native SVG package.

What the React Native compatibility evidence does—and does not—show
The sources reviewed do not document an official Recharts React Native adapter or direct native support. That is an evidence limit, not proof that every possible workaround is impossible; compatibility should be confirmed against current documentation and the exact project setup before relying on it.
A Recharts GitHub issue opened on April 19, 2022 records an individual attempt to use Recharts components in React Native with react-native-svg, reporting that the setup did not work. It is useful as a warning against assuming the two packages fit together automatically, but one issue report is not an official compatibility policy or a complete test of every configuration. How to choose a charting library for your app
Before adopting a chart package, verify these points in its current documentation and with a small prototype:
- Native entry point: Does the library explicitly document React Native usage, rather than only React DOM or browser rendering?
- Version support: Are your React Native and React versions supported?
- Project setup: Does it work with your Expo or bare React Native configuration, and does it require native dependencies or extra setup?
- Platforms: Are both iOS and Android supported for the chart types and interactions you need?
- Rendering and performance: Does its rendering backend fit your data volume, update frequency, and performance needs?
- Product requirements: Can it provide your required chart types, labels, interactions, and accessibility?
- Maintenance: Is the project actively maintained, and do its releases and compatibility notes fit your upgrade plans?
Build a small screen using the candidate library before committing to it: render a representative chart, test its interactions and labels on your target platforms, and confirm the build with your actual Expo or bare setup. This catches integration constraints that a package description alone cannot settle.

Should you try to make Recharts work with react-native-svg?
Do not treat react-native-svg as a drop-in renderer for Recharts. The documented Recharts surface includes SVG chart output and HTML-rendered tooltip and legend components; the cited issue shows that installing or using a native SVG package alongside Recharts did not make that reported attempt work. The available sources do not establish a supported adapter path. If you still want to investigate a custom integration, verify every required component and rendering behavior in a minimal app rather than assuming the chart will transfer intact.
Check the current package details before installing
Package versions and compatibility can change. The npm listing showed Recharts 3.10.1 in the registry information reviewed on September 30, 2026; treat that as a dated snapshot, not a lasting latest-version claim. Check the Recharts npm listing and current project documentation when implementing, and confirm the package’s stated compatibility with your React and React Native versions. The README’s installation example is for the React package workflow; it does not itself establish React Native support. Recharts README
