Only if you have permission that specifically covers playing the music in a YouTube livestream—and meet YouTube’s rights requirements. Buying a track, finding it online, or licensing it through Creator Music does not automatically clear it for a continuous live broadcast. YouTube scans livestreams for third-party content, and a match can interrupt or terminate the stream.

What rights does a 24/7 YouTube stream need?

YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions put responsibility on the streamer to have the necessary rights to use live content on Google services worldwide. For music, the terms identify rights from artists, record labels, publishers—including public-performance rights—and other royalty participants. Any applicable licenses, consents, notifications, or approvals must remain in place for the stream’s duration.

That means checking both the recording and the underlying composition, and confirming that the permission covers the actual use you plan. The required rights can depend on the repertoire, territories, stream configuration, and license. YouTube’s platform rules do not determine every country’s copyright law or establish what a particular music license grants.

What can happen if YouTube detects a song?

YouTube says it scans every livestream for matches to third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you. Continued use can lead to a temporary interruption or termination. Details are in YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

A license does not guarantee that automated detection will leave the stream uninterrupted. YouTube says the rights owner should add a licensed channel to its Content ID allowlist; without that step, a licensed stream may still be interrupted. Confirm the allowlisting arrangement with the owner when applicable, then test and monitor the stream in YouTube Studio.

Does Creator Music cover a 24/7 livestream?

No. YouTube’s Creator Music usage details and Creator Music FAQ limit its licensing and revenue-sharing options to eligible long-form videos, not live content. A Creator Music track should not be treated as cleared for a continuous broadcast.

How to check music before you go live

  1. Make a track-by-track rights record. Identify who controls each recording and composition, and keep the relevant license or written permission.
  2. Confirm the scope in writing. Check that the grant expressly covers livestreaming on YouTube, your channel, planned territories, monetization if applicable, continuous or repeated use, and any archive or replay. Do not assume that a purchase, a “royalty-free” label, or permission for edited videos covers a live radio stream.
  3. Ask about Content ID allowlisting. Where applicable, ask the rights owner to allowlist your channel. Test the broadcast and watch YouTube Studio for warnings or restrictions.
  4. Recheck when the use changes. Review the permissions if you change territories, playlists, stream formats, monetization, or archived-live settings. YouTube’s livestream terms also apply to archived content where offered.
  5. Investigate claims promptly. If a warning, claim, or takedown occurs, identify the track and rights owner, compare the license with the use, and follow YouTube’s resolution process. A successful live broadcast does not itself clear an archive: YouTube says Content ID claims may be made after an archived livestream ends.

Music sources that may be safer—and what to verify

YouTube describes music in the public domain and music used with permission as copyright-safe categories. It recommends the YouTube Audio Library, original music, and careful review of third-party license terms in its guidance on finding safe music. The word “free” in a track description does not by itself prevent a Content ID match.

For any source, verify the specific track’s terms for live broadcasts, YouTube use, territories, monetization, continuous or repeated playback, and archived replay. Audio Library guidance can help find music for YouTube videos, but it does not establish that every track or license is suitable for every 24/7 live-radio setup. Check the terms for the track you intend to use.

Or let it run in the cloud

StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos; it does not provide music rights or make copyrighted tracks safe to broadcast. You still need permission that covers the music and the stream. To use it, upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Learn about StreamNeo or start the free day.
