On Lenovo convertibles covered by the cited guides, folding the device into tablet posture automatically disables its built-in keyboard and pointing device. Use the touchscreen in that posture; on the documented models, returning the display to notebook posture restores keyboard input. This is expected behavior, not by itself a sign of a fault. The exact behavior depends on your model.
Why does my Lenovo keyboard stop working in tablet mode?
On supported 2-in-1 convertibles, the hinge posture—not a keyboard setting—can disable the built-in keyboard and pointing device. Lenovo’s 13w 2-in-1 Gen 3 guide states, “The keyboard and the pointing device are automatically disabled in the stand mode and tablet mode.” Lenovo’s Yoga 9i 2-in-1 guide describes the same behavior for stand, tent, and tablet modes. These instructions apply to the models covered by those guides, not necessarily every Lenovo laptop.
In tablet posture, use the touchscreen. The 13w guide says keyboard input returns when you move the display back to notebook mode. When rotating the display, follow the model’s user guide: Lenovo cautions against forcing the display or pressing hard on its upper corners.

The cited guides do not describe a setting that keeps the built-in keyboard active in tablet posture. Lenovo Vantage can customize keyboard settings on the 13w 2-in-1 Gen 3 through Device > Input & Accessories, but its guide does not say this overrides posture-based disabling.

If you need to type while using the device as a tablet, practical alternatives are to return it to notebook posture or use a compatible external input device. Check your exact model’s documentation for supported connection options; the cited materials do not establish a universal accessory recommendation.
Is Windows Tablet Mode the same as folding the Lenovo screen?
No. Convertible posture is a physical state of the display hinge. Windows 10 Tablet Mode is an operating-system interface setting. Changing the Windows setting is not a universal way to reactivate a keyboard disabled because the screen is folded back.

Lenovo’s instructions for enabling or disabling Tablet Mode cover Windows 10 on devices that support the feature. On a matching supported device, the page describes using Action Center or Settings. Do not apply those legacy steps as general Windows instructions or as a fix for hinge-based keyboard disabling. What can I use for writing or drawing?
The touchscreen is the documented input method in tablet posture. Lenovo’s guide for the 100w Gen 4, 300w Yoga Gen 4, and 500w Yoga Gen 4 identifies an integrated rechargeable pen on selected 300w and 500w configurations for writing and sketching. Confirm your exact model and configuration before relying on an integrated pen; it is an input option, not a way to keep the built-in keyboard enabled.

What if the keyboard does not work after I return to notebook posture?
The cited guides say keyboard input returns to notebook posture on the models they cover. If it remains unavailable, tablet posture alone does not establish the cause. Consult the user guide and official support instructions for your exact Lenovo model rather than assuming that every model shares the same troubleshooting steps.
