At some TSA checkpoints, yes; during a traffic stop, acceptance depends on your state and the officer’s requirements. Google Wallet state IDs are not accepted at every airport, and Google says a digital ID does not replace the physical card. Carry your physical driver’s license or state ID whenever you travel or drive.
Can TSA accept a Google Wallet state ID?
TSA accepts a REAL ID-compliant state ID in Google Wallet at supported airport checkpoints. Support is limited, so having a state ID in Wallet does not mean every airport or checkpoint will accept it. Check TSA’s acceptable identification guidance before your trip, and confirm with your issuing state if needed. Google’s Wallet instructions for US driving licenses and state IDs also explain the feature and its limits.
Your ID must meet the REAL ID requirement
For domestic checkpoint identification, the Wallet state ID must be REAL ID-compliant. TSA began enforcing its REAL ID checkpoint rules on May 7, 2025; a non-REAL-ID state license or ID is not accepted as checkpoint identification. Check your card or ask your state motor-vehicle agency if you are unsure whether it is compliant.
Wallet availability and TSA acceptance are different
Google’s support page lists Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Maryland, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, and Puerto Rico as places where this state-ID feature is available. That list describes where you can add the credential, not where every airport or government agency accepts it. Airport support must be checked separately.

Should you bring the physical card?
Yes. Google states, “A digital ID in Google Wallet is not a replacement for your physical ID.” Keep the physical card with you even when you expect to use the Wallet version. TSA’s identity-verification process for people arriving without acceptable ID is not a guaranteed substitute: if TSA confirms your identity, you may proceed to screening but could face additional screening. TSA says you will not be allowed through if you refuse acceptable identification, decline verification, or cannot be verified.
TSA requires adult passengers 18 and older to show valid identification at the checkpoint. Its acceptable-ID list can change without notice, so recheck it before travel.

Can you show a Google Wallet state ID during a traffic stop?
There is no nationwide answer established by Google’s Wallet guidance. Its published instructions describe use at supported TSA airports and certain app-based identity or age checks; they do not establish that an officer must accept a Wallet state ID during a traffic stop. The applicable law and enforcement practice depend on the jurisdiction.
Carry your physical driver’s license when driving. For a definitive local answer, check your state motor-vehicle agency’s guidance or relevant law-enforcement information. Do not assume TSA acceptance means police acceptance.

A passport-based Google Wallet ID pass is a separate credential from a state ID. Google says only ID passes created using a US passport can be used at TSA security in supported airports. Google also warns that an ID pass is not official identification or a replacement for physical documentation, and recommends checking eligibility with the organization requesting it. Do not treat it as a universally accepted ID.
