A cracked iPhone may still receive a trade-in offer, but Apple does not publish a universal rule or fixed value for cracked screens. Its estimate depends on the exact model and the condition you report, and Apple says it inspects the device after receiving it. If Apple finds the phone in a condition that makes it ineligible for trade-in value, its US program offers free recycling instead.
Does Apple accept iPhones with cracked screens?
Apple’s US trade-in information does not promise that a cracked iPhone will qualify—or that it will be rejected. Apple says trade-in value depends on the device’s model and condition, and that eligibility and value are subject to inspection. A crack by itself therefore does not establish the outcome or the amount. Check the estimate for your exact iPhone and answer the condition questions accurately. Apple Trade In does not publish a model-specific cracked-screen amount or a damaged-phone acceptance rate.
How to check an estimate and respond if it changes
- Identify the exact iPhone model. Start Apple’s trade-in process and select the device that matches yours; the model is part of the valuation.
- Describe its condition honestly. Answer the questions with the crack and any other damage in mind. Apple says an estimate can change if inspection finds that the device’s condition differs from your description.
- Review the inspected value before proceeding. Apple’s US terms say a revised quote is presented for your decision. You can accept or reject the revised offer; do not treat the initial estimate as guaranteed credit. Apple Trade In Terms and Conditions
Apple says the trade-in service is provided by a third-party vendor, and that eligibility and value depend on inspection. Its US terms also identify failure to turn off Find My iPhone and late receipt as circumstances that can affect a quote. The terms describe a 14-day receipt period after delivery of the trade-in box; follow the deadline and instructions shown for your own transaction, since details can vary by route and market.

Apple supports online trade-in and Apple Store routes, but its published information does not establish a universal processing-time advantage or guarantee that every store can assess every device immediately. Choose based on how you want to hand over the phone and whether you prefer an in-store interaction or a mail-in process.

What if Apple offers no trade-in value?
If Apple determines the phone is not eligible for trade-in value, Apple’s US page says it can still be recycled for free, regardless of model or condition. The published options are recycling at an Apple Store or through Apple.com in the US. Apple Trade In
That free-recycling statement applies to Apple’s ordinary program, not necessarily every unusual item. Apple’s recycling terms exclude certain categories, including devices with substantial contamination or liquid content; check the Apple Reuse & Recycling Program Terms and Conditions if the phone has those issues.

Protect your data before handing over the iPhone
Back up anything you want to keep, then erase personal data before trade-in or recycling. Apple’s terms make backing up or deleting data the customer’s responsibility. Use Apple’s current trade-in preparation guidance and the instructions for your transaction before surrendering the phone. If you are mailing it, also follow the vendor’s packing and shipping directions.
