You can prepare a MAX channel and bot in one focused session if the account is eligible, the channel route is clear, and the bot does not need to be live before moderation finishes. A private channel can be created directly in MAX by an account registered to a Russian phone number; a bot or business-platform channel requires a verified eligible profile. MAX does not promise a bot-review turnaround, so a realistic one-session goal may be to build and submit—not launch.

An AI agent can draft checklists, profile copy, starter code, API requests, and tests from sanitized inputs. Keep verification, moderation, credentials, permission grants, and publication under the operator’s control.

Can I set up a MAX bot and channel in one session?

Possibly—but distinguish setup from going live. MAX documents partner-platform access for Russian-resident legal entities, sole proprietors, and self-employed people. Its profile guide says individuals and non-residents cannot complete verification at present. Bot creation follows profile verification, and MAX makes the bot available after successful moderation; the documentation does not state how long review takes. See MAX for Developers and its chatbot help.

If your immediate need is a private channel, MAX documents direct in-app creation for an account registered to a Russian phone number, without partner-platform onboarding. Public channels have several possible routes, and eligibility and limits differ by route. Decide which one applies before planning the session.

Choose the channel route before you start

Private channel created in MAX

This is the lighter route when the channel is private and you do not need partner-platform services. The documented requirement is an account registered to a Russian phone number. This route does not create a bot or satisfy the verification prerequisite for one.

Public business channel through MAX for Business

For the documented business-platform route, open Channels → Create on the MAX partner platform and choose the new business-channel path. Continue in the “Каналы в MAX для бизнеса” bot, provide the phone number matching the partner-platform account, wait for request processing, enter the channel name, then confirm creation when MAX says it is available. After creation, add the description and avatar, set comment options, appoint an administrator if needed, and publish the first post.

MAX’s channel-creation page documents different limits by profile and route. As checked in 2026, organizations and sole proprietors can create up to 10 business channels with generated idИНН_biz-style names; self-employed profiles can create one se(orgid)_biz channel. Public channels created using a channel_никнейм route have a five-channel cap counted together with other public channels as described on the official page. Confirm the exact route and current limit for your profile in MAX’s channel-creation documentation.

Other public-channel options

MAX also documents A+ creation for qualifying existing channels or communities on VK, Odnoklassniki, Dzen, or Telegram. Direct creation in MAX is documented when Digital ID and other stated conditions are met. These are not interchangeable routes: check the platform’s current eligibility conditions rather than assuming every account can create a public channel the same way.

Prepare the bot and session checklist

Before opening the platform, define the bot’s first narrow job: what it answers, what it must not do, and when it hands a conversation to a person. Prepare its name, description, welcome text, and the information needed for moderation. Decide whether you will code against the API or use a no-code partner service. MAX documents both approaches; a builder can reduce coding but does not remove profile verification or moderation.

  • Confirm the profile is eligible and verified if the plan includes bot creation or a business-platform channel.
  • Choose the channel route and check the applicable limits.
  • Write the bot’s scope, handoff rule, and moderation-ready profile text.
  • Ask an AI agent to prepare drafts and tests using non-secret information.
  • Reserve time for human review, permissions, deployment, and a safe test.

MAX’s chatbot help page, checked in 2026, lists a limit of five bots for a legal entity or sole proprietor and two for a self-employed profile. These are MAX-published operational limits and can change; check the current bot documentation before relying on them.

Create the bot, then wait for moderation

  1. Sign in to the MAX partner platform with the eligible, verified profile.
  2. Create a bot, complete its profile card, and submit it for moderation.
  3. Wait for successful moderation before treating the bot as available to users. MAX does not specify a review-time guarantee.
  4. After approval, retrieve the token from the bot’s settings and store it securely.

The owner or operator should handle account access and the moderation submission. If verification is incomplete or the bot remains under review at the end of the session, the accurate status is “prepared and submitted,” not “live.”

Configure API access and event delivery

For a coded bot, MAX’s current API documentation directs requests to platform-api2.max.ru and requires the token in the Authorization header. MAX states: “Передача токена через query-параметры больше не поддерживается — используйте заголовок Authorization: <access_token>”. In other words, do not pass the token in query parameters. See the MAX API overview.

Choose event delivery based on the phase and deployment:

  • Webhooks: use subscriptions for ongoing event delivery in a deployed integration.
  • Long Polling: MAX identifies this option for development and testing.

Keep generated code aligned with the current API. MAX says GET /chats ceased to be supported in June 2026 and directs developers to POST /subscriptions for the bot’s subscribed chats and channels. Its API overview also states that POST /chats/{chatId}/members was removed on 30 September 2026. These dated API changes make older examples potentially misleading; check the current overview before deploying.

Grant only the channel permissions the bot needs

For channel or group actions such as posting or pinning, MAX says the bot needs administrator rights. It must already be a member or channel subscriber before it can be assigned as an administrator. Add it first, then grant only the rights required for the bot’s job. Before relying on automated publishing, test a harmless action in an approved test channel or with a low-risk post.

What can an AI agent do for a MAX bot setup?

A general-purpose AI agent is most useful for bounded preparation, not account control. Give it requirements and examples that contain no production credentials, then review every output before use.

  • Turn the requirements into a session checklist and a moderation-ready bot description.
  • Draft welcome messages, response boundaries, and human-handoff wording.
  • Generate a starter handler, sample API request scaffolding, and test cases.
  • Review code for references to the dated endpoints noted above.
  • Build a test matrix for event delivery, permission failures, and malformed payloads.

Do not paste a live token into an agent prompt, source repository, screenshot, or public troubleshooting transcript. MAX warns that the token provides direct access to the bot. Store it in a secret manager or environment variable, keep it out of generated examples, and rotate it if exposed. Have the operator review and deploy code; do not let unreviewed output publish to a live channel.

Pick the implementation path that fits your team

Choice When it fits Trade-off
Direct API code You need control over bot behavior and have someone able to build and maintain the integration. Requires implementation, secure credential handling, and API maintenance.
No-code partner builder You want to reduce custom coding for a supported workflow. Check the service’s capabilities and access requirements; MAX’s profile and bot-moderation requirements still apply.
Webhook delivery You are configuring event delivery for an ongoing integration. Requires a reachable integration endpoint and deployment setup.
Long Polling You are developing or testing, as described by MAX. MAX documents it for development/testing rather than positioning it as the default for every production setup.
Self-managed build You want direct control over code and deployment. Your team owns review, security, testing, and ongoing maintenance.
Listed integrator You prefer outside help or an existing integration. Confirm scope, access, security, and commercial terms directly with the provider.

MAX’s integration directory lists chatbot builders, support-chat platforms, CRM systems, mini-app builders, and custom development providers. Its listings include SaleBot, Smartbot, LEADTEX, and Morizo. A listing is a route to investigate, not an independent performance assessment; compare services against the workflow and access your team needs.
