Short answer: Telegram says you can view public channel posts in a web browser without a Telegram account. But the official sources cited here do not document that browser preview as a supported Python bulk-scraping interface. If you use Telegram’s client API with Telethon, you need your own API ID and hash.
What you can do without an account
Telegram says public channel content can be viewed on the web without a Telegram account. Its channel overview gives t.me/s/FinancialTimes as an example. Telegram also says public post links can be shared and opened in a browser outside the app.
This is a way to read public content in a browser, not documented evidence of a supported bulk-extraction method. The official page does not promise complete message history, stable page markup, access to every public channel, or a programmatic scraping interface. Those details matter if you intend to build a Python script: a browser page being visible does not make its underlying HTML a stable or officially supported data source.
Why Telethon does not meet the “no API ID” requirement
Telethon is a Python library for interacting with Telegram through its client API. Its signing-in guide requires an API ID and API hash for this workflow. Telegram’s API Terms of Service say, “You must obtain your own api_id for your application.” Telethon also warns that the API hash is secret.

So a Telethon tutorial cannot accurately be described as using Telegram’s client API without an API ID. The browser preview and the client API are separate routes with different capabilities and requirements.

What to do for your project
- Only need to read a public channel without an account? Open its public web preview or a shareable post link in a browser.
- Need a Python program using Telegram’s client API? Register your own application credentials and use a client library such as Telethon in accordance with Telegram’s terms.
- Need automated collection without credentials? The official sources cited here do not establish a supported Python method for doing that through the web preview. Do not assume that scraping its page HTML is stable, complete, or permitted simply because a person can view the page.
Telegram API terms to account for
For API applications, Telegram’s terms require developers to obtain their own API ID. They also require apps that access channel content to support official sponsored messages without interfering with them. In addition, the terms prohibit using or aggregating Telegram data for AI or machine-learning model development, enhancement, or deployment. Read the current API Terms of Service before building an integration; terms can change.

You can view public Telegram channel posts on the web without logging in, but the official sources cited here do not document that preview as a supported bulk-scraping interface. Telethon uses Telegram’s client API and requires your own API ID and hash. If you need automated collection, use an authorized, documented route and do not present an undocumented HTML-scraping workaround as an official or guaranteed method.
