Yes. Switchroot documents Android 15 (LineageOS 22.2) and Android 14 (LineageOS 21) for every Nintendo Switch model family, including the original Switch, revised Switch, Switch Lite, and Switch OLED. But model support is not the same as an easy installation: the boot route depends on the console’s hardware and configuration, and the documented SD-card method erases the card when it partitions it.

Which Switch models can run Android?

Switchroot’s Android 14 and 15 documentation lists support for all four Switch SKU families: v1 (odin), v2 (modin), Lite (vali), and OLED (fric). It describes Android 15 as based on LineageOS 22.2 and Android 14 as based on LineageOS 21. Both releases are listed in tablet and Android TV variants. Release availability can change; check the Switchroot Android documentation for the current status.

The important distinction is how the console can boot the software. A supported model is not necessarily able to use the same boot method as another Switch, and the project’s installation guide does not cover exploiting a console, installing a modchip, or setting up Hekate.

Original v1 Switch

The LineageOS guide describes an exploitable original v1 configuration that uses an RCM jig and Hekate. That route applies only when the particular v1 unit has the required exploitable configuration; “v1” by itself does not establish that.

Yojaro 4Pack Silicone Suction Phone Case Mount, Silicon Adhesive Smartphones Stand Sticky, Hands-Free Phone Accessories Holder for Selfies and Videos (Black & White & Translucent & Light Pink)
  • 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
  • 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
  • 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
  • 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
  • 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)

Revised v1, v2, Lite, and OLED

The guide describes a modchipped configuration for v1, v2, Lite, and OLED hardware, and says it prefers that configuration. Consult model-specific instructions for boot access before using the Android installation steps. The official LineageOS Switch installation guide is for installing LineageOS after the required boot setup is in place.

Android 15 or Android 14: which version should you choose?

Option Base Documented interface variants
Android 15 LineageOS 22.2 Tablet and Android TV
Android 14 LineageOS 21 Tablet and Android TV

Those are the current versions highlighted in Switchroot’s documentation; older branches also appear on the project wiki, but they are not the versions to foreground for a new setup. The documentation establishes interface variants, not a controlled performance comparison between them.

Apple EarPods Headphones with USB-C Plug, Wired Ear Buds with Built-in Remote to Control Music, Phone Calls, and Volume
  • SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
  • HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
  • BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
  • COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
  • INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.

Tablet interface

Choose the tablet variant if you want a touch-oriented Android layout on the Switch’s built-in screen. It is the more natural fit for handheld use and apps designed around a tablet-style interface.

Android TV interface

Choose Android TV if you prefer a television-oriented interface and intend to use the system docked. The variant changes the interface, not the Switch’s underlying hardware or the compatibility of every app.

What Android on Switch can—and cannot—do

Switchroot documents a Switch Configuration app with controller remapping and analog-trigger settings. Its Android 14/15 documentation also describes RAM, CPU, and GPU overclocking options; CPU and GPU overclocking require Performance Mode. These are available configuration features, not evidence that every app will run faster or that every setup will be stable under every workload.

Android gives the Switch access to an Android environment, but it does not turn the console into a conventional PC. The Switch uses an aarch64 processor, so x86_64 software such as Steam does not run natively. Switchroot’s FAQ discusses emulation and compatibility tools, but those options are not native PC-software support and come with substantial limitations. Nor does the project guarantee that every Android app will install or work; LineageOS notes that app developers may exclude a device.

Before installing: protect the SD card and check the route

The official LineageOS SD installation guide says its installer partitions the card and erases its contents. Back up everything on the card before proceeding; do not treat the Android setup as an ordinary app install. The guide calls for a high-quality, high-speed SD card and suggests allocating Android roughly 10 GB or more. It does not establish a particular card model as tested or guaranteed compatible.

  • Confirm the exact Switch model and that you have the applicable boot setup before following Android steps.
  • Read the full installation guide first and verify that the stock Switch OS boots and works at least once.
  • Copy any files you need elsewhere before partitioning the SD card.
  • Use the guide’s exact file paths and sequence rather than improvising the recovery or sideloading steps.

How the documented SD installation works

The LineageOS guide describes an SD-card installation involving Hekate, SD partitioning, copying files to specified paths, entering LineageOS recovery, and sideloading the OS package with ADB. Its steps assume Hekate and the relevant boot route are already available; the guide does not teach how to exploit or modchip a Switch.

Apply even pressure for a few seconds to allow the suction cup to adhere properly. To maintain the grip and prevent accidental falls, it's a good practice to periodically reapply pressure to the suction cup.
  1. Open the LineageOS guide for the Switch and read all instructions before changing the card.
  2. Make a complete backup of the SD card, then prepare a suitable high-speed card and reserve roughly 10 GB or more for Android, as the guide suggests.
  3. Follow the guide’s Hekate and partitioning instructions, then place the required files in the specified SD-card locations.
  4. Boot into LineageOS recovery and sideload the OS package using the guide’s ADB instructions.
  5. If you want Google Apps, install the optional add-on package before the first Android boot, as the guide directs.

The guide covers installation to SD. Switchroot has a separate eMMC guide; installing to eMMC is a distinct, more advanced route that takes space from the stock Switch OS and should not be substituted for the SD steps.

Is Android on Switch right for you?

This setup is most relevant if you specifically want an Android tablet-style or TV-style environment on Switch hardware and already understand the console’s boot requirements. It is a poor fit if you expect a simple download, a Nintendo-supported mode, guaranteed compatibility with every Android app, or a native Steam/Windows gaming PC. The Android projects are separate from Nintendo, and the official installation guide states LineageOS is provided without warranty.
