Technically, an encoder-based YouTube livestream can run from a cloud service, including an Indian one, but YouTube does not guarantee continuous 24/7 operation or certify a particular cloud provider. Whether you can operate without GST registration is a separate legal question: it depends on your aggregate turnover, location, revenue and the registration rules or exceptions that apply to you. The facts in this question alone are not enough to decide it.

Can an Indian cloud service keep a YouTube stream live 24/7?

Potentially. YouTube supports livestreaming with an encoder, and a cloud-hosted encoder is one possible way to send a stream without keeping a computer at home running. YouTube’s setup guidance explains encoder-based streaming, but it does not promise a continuous broadcast or endorse a particular Indian cloud provider. Start with YouTube’s livestreaming guidance and encoder setup and settings.

A cloud virtual machine is not automatically suitable for every source or format. Before paying for an always-on plan, verify the service’s sustained compute capacity, outbound bandwidth and traffic charges, region and network stability, restart and recovery behavior, monitoring, and total cost. These are practical checks for a continuous workload, not proof that a particular provider can deliver it.

Configure and test the encoder before launch

  1. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a livestream and choose encoder software as the streaming method. Copy the stream URL and stream key into the encoder or cloud workflow. Keep the key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your stream.
  2. Choose a resolution, frame rate, and codec that your source and encoder can sustain. Match the encoder bitrate to the selected format and available upload capacity. YouTube’s settings guidance recommends H.264 bitrates of 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 17 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. These are YouTube recommendations, not a guarantee of the bandwidth or compute needs of every cloud setup.
  3. Use the keyframe interval and other settings specified in YouTube’s current encoder guidance for your selected codec and workflow. YouTube recommends RTMPS; use it when your encoder and service support it.
  4. Run a representative test with the actual video, audio, motion, resolution, and bitrate before committing to a long broadcast. Check YouTube’s stream-health indicators and listen for audio issues. Confirm how the provider handles a crashed encoder process, a restarted virtual machine, or a dropped connection.
  5. After starting the broadcast, monitor stream health and confirm the live output in YouTube. A cloud machine being switched on does not by itself prove that the encoder is sending successfully or that YouTube is receiving a healthy stream.

YouTube’s live documentation states limits of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. It also makes livestreaming subject to its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service and reserves the ability to restrict livestream access. A 24/7 schedule does not exempt content from those rules.

Copyright and content eligibility still matter

Use content you own or are licensed to stream, and check that the permission covers livestreaming and the relevant territories. A cloud service only transports the video; it does not grant music, video, or other rights. YouTube can apply its policies to live content, and stream availability is not a substitute for checking the platform’s rules.

Does using an Indian cloud service mean you do not need GST registration?

No general yes-or-no answer follows from the cloud service’s location. GST registration is determined by the creator’s own circumstances and the applicable law, not simply by whether the encoder runs on an Indian server. The Telangana State GST Department’s November 2025 handbook describes a general threshold of ₹20 lakh aggregate turnover in a financial year, or ₹10 lakh in specified special-category states. Thresholds are only an orientation point: compulsory-registration provisions and exceptions may affect whether registration is required.

Aggregate turnover and the nature of the creator’s supplies need to be assessed under the applicable rules. Monetization, payments from YouTube or another party, other business supplies, the recipient and its location, and the creator’s state or union territory can all matter. A threshold figure alone is not an individualized conclusion.

Why the cloud-hosting export clarification does not settle a creator’s tax position

CBIC Circular 232/26/2024-GST, dated 10 September 2024, addresses a specific transaction: data-hosting services supplied by an Indian provider to an overseas cloud-computing entity. It says that this supply can be considered an export of services if the other conditions in section 2(6) of the IGST Act are met. That is not the same transaction as a creator buying cloud hosting or receiving platform revenue. The circular does not determine whether a creator’s receipts are exports, who the relevant recipient is, whether the creator crosses a threshold, or whether a compulsory-registration rule applies. Read the CBIC circular within that limited scope.

Facts to gather before deciding

  • Your state or union territory and whether you operate as an individual, proprietorship, or another entity.
  • Your aggregate turnover across relevant supplies for the financial year, including supplies beyond the YouTube stream.
  • Whether the stream is monetized, what payments you receive, who pays them, and where that recipient is located.
  • Whether you make other taxable supplies and whether a registration exception or compulsory-registration provision applies.

If any of these details are uncertain, your GST position remains unresolved. A qualified Indian GST practitioner can apply the current rules to your facts. The CBIC’s GST registration FAQ may provide background, but broad FAQ statements should be read alongside applicable notifications and your specific circumstances rather than treated as a personal legal opinion.

Or let it run in the cloud

StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for keeping uploaded videos live as a 24/7 stream; it is not a camera broadcast service. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Every slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K at 60 fps, at one price regardless of quality, with no re-encode; it includes looping and playlists, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and StreamNeo team support. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Plans are otherwise identical, with different billing lengths:
