For the inner screen of a foldable phone, use the manufacturer’s recommended service route rather than peeling off or applying a protector yourself. Samsung and Motorola warn against removing their pre-installed inner protectors, and Google tells Pixel Fold owners not to remove or replace its factory film with a third-party protector. Check support for your exact model and country to confirm where it can be serviced, whether you qualify for a replacement, and what it costs.
Why the inner protector is different
A foldable phone’s inner protector is designed for a display that repeatedly bends. Samsung says its Galaxy Z protector is specially designed to withstand folding and unfolding; Motorola describes the Razr liner as tailored to the folding design. Ordinary advice for replacing a flat phone’s screen protector therefore does not necessarily apply.
Samsung US says owners should not apply the Galaxy Z protector themselves and recommends against removing it. Motorola says not to remove the Razr’s factory-installed protector or use a third-party protector on the internal display. Google likewise tells Pixel Fold owners not to remove or peel back the pre-installed film or apply a third-party protector. Motorola’s Razr support guidance, Samsung US support, and Google’s Pixel Fold safety guide provide the model-specific warnings.
What to do if the film is lifting or damaged
Recognize signs that need assessment
Samsung Germany lists scratches, cracks, and other film damage as reasons a replacement may be needed. Motorola advises contacting service if the protector bubbles, deforms, or separates from the display. If the film is lifting, damaged, or interfering with touch, ask the manufacturer or an authorized service partner to assess the phone.

Avoid trying to fix it by force
- Do not pick at, peel back, or pull off the inner film.
- Do not press hard on the flexible display or try to smooth a bubble with force.
- Do not install a generic or third-party film on the inner screen unless the manufacturer for your exact model explicitly permits it.
Samsung Korea warns that arbitrary removal or a non-genuine film can risk damage, and that removing the film can affect touch sensitivity. Damage to the film can also resemble damage to the display, so a service-center assessment is preferable to assuming the screen itself has failed. Samsung Korea’s film guidance is dated August 8, 2024.
Where to get a replacement, and how terms vary
Use the official support page for your model and country to identify an authorized provider or mail-in route. The following examples are limited to the regions and terms named by the manufacturers; they are not universal prices or coverage promises.

Check service eligibility before sending or bringing in the phone
Do not assume a protector replacement will be free, covered by warranty, or automatically invalidate the warranty if attempted. Eligibility and cost depend on the model, country, warranty or protection plan, and the condition of the phone. For Google devices, the warranty helper uses the device’s IMEI to check coverage and notes that physical, cosmetic, or liquid damage, or expired coverage, may affect eligibility. Google’s warranty and repair information also gives a general mail-in repair estimate of 7–10 business days; that is not a promised turnaround for a protector replacement.

If the protector has already been removed
Do not treat removal as a recommendation to continue using or installing a replacement film yourself. Contact the manufacturer or an authorized service partner for model-specific advice. Samsung Korea notes that touch sensitivity may need to be turned off in display settings if a Galaxy Z’s film has already been removed; that is a region-specific troubleshooting note, not guidance to remove the film.
