Wacom says a used tablet cannot be registered by a second-hand buyer to obtain another bundled-software license. Registration is limited to the original first-time purchaser who bought new from Wacom or a valid reseller. But registration is not required to use the hardware: install the current driver and set up the tablet on your computer.
What Wacom allows for a used tablet
Wacom’s Support article, “Can I register a used or second-hand product?”, says product registration is limited to the original first-time new purchaser. Wacom also says it cannot issue a second software license for a second-hand device. The physical tablet and any bundled software entitlement are separate: buying the hardware used does not make the original software offer available to the new owner.
Wacom’s same guidance says: “Regardless a Wacom tablet can still be used on your computer even without registration.” The statement appears in Wacom Support’s article dated January 28, 2022. For ordinary tablet operation, install the current driver; registration is not a prerequisite.

Registration, bundled software, and tablet use are different

Wacom notes that most bundled software is a 90-day trial, and that availability and license details differ by offer. Check the offer terms rather than assuming registration provides a permanent license. See Wacom’s guidance on software license keys and serial numbers.

If you bought the tablet new and are eligible to register
Wacom’s documented setup and registration process is:
- Download and install the driver for your device.
- Connect the tablet to your computer and follow the setup prompts in Wacom Center.
- Log in to your Wacom Account, or create one if you do not have an account.
- In Wacom Center, open Device Manager and register the device as prompted.
- After registration, follow the Software Offers link if you want to check and redeem software available for that product.
These steps reflect Wacom’s device registration instructions, updated August 29, 2024. The offer available to you depends on the product and its terms.

Older Wacom models and software bundle keys
For some legacy devices, Wacom documents a separate software-bundle registration route using a Software Bundle Download (SBD) key in the account’s Product Registration area. It concerns registration of a software bundle, not a general exception for second-hand buyers. Wacom’s second-hand restriction still applies to obtaining another software license.

Find the model and serial number if you need them
If you need to identify the tablet for setup or support, Wacom Center can show the connected device’s model and serial number under Support and Diagnostic Data. Wacom also provides device-specific guidance on where to find the label. Its instructions are in Where can I find the model number and serial number of my Wacom device?, updated April 29, 2024.
If the tablet is already registered to the previous owner
Wacom’s published used-device guidance does not offer a general owner-to-owner registration or software-license transfer. Its separate article about changing an account email covers a different account-maintenance situation; it says support may confirm whether a supported product registration can be transferred, and notes that software availability can prevent transfer and a license key can be used only once. That is not a promise that a second-hand buyer can transfer registration or obtain the former owner’s software entitlement. The distinction is described in Wacom’s account email-change guidance, updated September 4, 2025.

Keep the receipt, order number, and purchase history if you have them. Wacom says purchase records can be relevant when verifying warranty coverage during a repair, but they do not change its stated second-hand registration policy.
Warranty and account-access considerations
Wacom’s second-hand product article says its Limited warranty does not apply to second-hand devices. The article does not specify geographic scope, so check the warranty terms that apply in your region rather than treating that statement as a jurisdiction-independent legal conclusion.

If you cannot log in or an account page will not load, Wacom says cookie restrictions in your browser can cause account access or loading problems. Its troubleshooting article is Why can I not create a Wacom ID account or log into my Wacom Account? A login problem does not change whether a second-hand buyer is eligible to register the device.
