Yes. You can use a finished gaming livestream replay as a video and create a Premiere from it in YouTube Studio, if YouTube offers the Premiere option for that specific video. The Premiere creates a scheduled, shared viewing event; it does not turn the original livestream into a new live broadcast.

How to turn a gaming livestream replay into a Premiere

  1. Find the replay in YouTube Studio. Confirm the finished stream is available as a video on your channel. YouTube says a channel may post a livestream replay or highlights after the stream ends. YouTube Help: Learn about live streams.
  2. Start the video upload workflow. In YouTube Studio, use the upload flow for the replay and enter or review its video details. YouTube’s Premiere instructions use the video upload workflow; they do not describe a special command to convert the original live event into a new event. YouTube Help: Create a Premiere.
  3. Choose how to launch it. In the video visibility step, choose an instant Premiere or schedule a date and time and select “Set as Premiere.” Check the specific video in Studio before announcing the event: YouTube’s documentation does not guarantee that every archived livestream will have this option.
  4. Check the format before promoting it. YouTube says Premieres do not support Shorts, 360/VR180 content, or output greater than 1080p. Its help page does not state an age cutoff for an old livestream replay. If the Premiere option is unavailable, do not promise viewers that the VOD can be premiered; leave it available as a regular video or choose another eligible video.
  5. Share the watch page and plan to be there. A Premiere creates a public watch page before the event, where viewers can set reminders, comment, and chat. YouTube recommends creator participation and planning moderation. YouTube Help: Create a Premiere.
  6. Review rights and channel status. Check game footage, music, overlays, and other material in the VOD. YouTube says creators must have necessary rights, including applicable music licensing rights. Re-premiering does not clear rights or ensure monetization.

What viewers experience during and after a Premiere

A Premiere gives viewers a shared, real-time viewing moment for a prerecorded video. They watch the same portion together, can rewind, but cannot skip ahead past the portion currently playing. The public watch page supports reminders, comments, and chat; after the event, the video remains a regular upload and chat replay is available. YouTube Help: Create a Premiere.

Premiere or leave the VOD as a regular video?

Option Best fit What it adds
Regular VOD Viewers mainly need to catch up whenever they want. Ordinary on-demand viewing; no scheduled shared event.
Premiere You want to gather viewers at a set time and participate with the community. A public pre-release watch page, reminders, synchronized playback, live chat and comments, and chat replay afterward.

A Premiere changes how viewers gather around the recording, not what the recording is: the old footage does not become live again. YouTube describes Premieres as watching a new video with creators and their community in real time. YouTube Help: Learn about live streams.

Chat, moderation, and monetization

If you want the event to feel like a community watch party, be present in chat and arrange moderation for the expected audience. YouTube’s Premiere tips mention third-party chat bots such as Nightbot as an example, not a requirement. YouTube Help: Create a Premiere.

Eligible creators may have access to features such as Super Chat and Super Stickers during Premieres, and YouTube describes advertising and other monetization options for live content. Ads are not guaranteed to appear, and a Premiere does not guarantee earnings. Review your channel’s eligibility and the individual VOD rather than assuming that a previous livestream or a rerun qualifies.

Rights and reused-content checks for gaming VODs

  • Copyright: A VOD may include game audio, licensed music, or other material with separate rights. YouTube’s livestream terms make the creator responsible for having necessary rights, including music licenses. A prior successful broadcast is not proof that every right is cleared for a new use. YouTube Terms of Service.
  • Monetization policy: YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to live streams as well as other formats. The policy page says that on July 15, 2025, YouTube renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” to clarify its policy on repetitive or mass-produced material; it says the reused-content policy did not change. Copyright and advertiser suitability are separate considerations. YouTube channel monetization policies.
  • Practical review: Check the actual recording and your channel’s current status before scheduling. Whether a VOD is eligible for a Premiere and whether it meets rights and monetization rules are distinct questions.
