Yes, but the options are different: The Sims 4’s official Gallery lets you share and download creations asynchronously, while the community-made S4MP mod advertises real-time play in one household. The base game’s Gallery is not live co-op, and S4MP is unofficial, Windows-focused, and dependent on compatibility with your current game version.
Can you play The Sims 4 with friends?
The Sims 4 is free to play and EA lists it for PC, Mac, PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, and Epic. That broad availability does not mean every platform supports mods or has the same multiplayer options. For playing with friends, decide whether you want to exchange creations or control Sims together. The Gallery is the official, lower-friction choice for sharing. S4MP is a separate community mod that advertises live network play.

The Gallery is EA’s official community feature for finding, sharing, and adding creations such as Sims, homes, and rooms. EA says players can download, like, and comment on community creations. You and your friends can use it to pass along ideas and content, then play separately in your own games; it does not put multiple players into the same live household session.

Can S4MP make The Sims 4 multiplayer?
S4MP is an unofficial community mod whose creator advertises real-time network play, with players living together in one household. It is the option to investigate if your goal is simultaneous play rather than exchanging downloadable creations. The listing checked October 7, 2026 showed S4MP version 0.76.1 for Windows, released September 12, 2026, and included supported Sims 4 versions such as 1.127.41. Those details can change with mod and game updates; check the current S4MP listing for its latest release and supported game build before installing. The mod’s claims are its creator’s, not an EA guarantee.
Check compatibility and protect your save
EA does not pre-screen, endorse, or support specific Mods or Custom Content. EA warns that a mod may stop working after a game update and recommends checking with its creator for compatibility. Follow EA’s mod and game-update guidance before trying S4MP:

- First launch the base game with mods disabled to confirm it works normally.
- Check the S4MP creator’s listing for compatibility with your installed game version.
- Only re-enable mods in Game Options after checking compatibility, then relaunch and test.
- Be careful with saves: EA warns that saving while mods or custom content are disabled may remove that content from the save.
What does the Sims 4 Marketplace do?
The Sims 4 Marketplace is EA’s storefront for digital content. It offers Maker Packs from approved Sims Makers as well as EA-made expansions, game packs, stuff packs, and kits; EA says purchases of Maker Packs support their creators. Marketplace content can give friends more creative material to discuss or use, but buying it does not enable multiplayer. EA says the Marketplace is available on PC, Mac, and console, in-game, on the web, and through the EA app. Check the official Marketplace page for current availability.

What about Project Rene?
In a January 9, 2026 update, EA described Project Rene as focused on social multiplayer play and said it is separate from The Sims 4 and from a future deep single-player life simulation. That announcement does not establish current general availability, test access, launch timing, geography, or supported devices. Do not treat Project Rene as a currently available way to play The Sims 4 with friends; look for a current EA announcement for its status.
