No. PlayStation Now no longer works on Samsung smart TVs. Sony ended support for every Samsung TV model on August 15, 2017, so buying the controller required for the old app will not restore access. The service did once stream PlayStation 3 games to select Samsung TVs, but that was a historical integration—not a current feature.
What was the Samsung TV integration?
Sony Computer Entertainment and Samsung Electronics announced the plan on December 23, 2014, with a rollout planned for the first half of 2015 in the United States and Canada. It was an app integration through Samsung Smart Hub, not a PlayStation console launch.
The app was intended to stream PS3 games from Sony’s cloud service directly to select Samsung Smart TVs. Sony said the December 2014 offering would include more than 200 PS3 titles across action-adventure, racing, role-playing and family-friendly categories. The announced features included trophies, online play with friends and cloud game saves.
Why did PlayStation Now disappear from Samsung TVs?
On February 15, 2017, Sony announced that PS Now would stop working on all Samsung TV models on August 15, 2017. Sign-ups on affected devices ended earlier, on March 15, 2017. Sony said it was shifting development focus and resources to PS4 and Windows PC to improve the experience on those platforms. Sony’s 2017 service update named all Samsung TV models among the devices losing support.
#1 Best Overall

- OBJECT TRACKING SOUND LITE: Feel like you're part of the scene with audio that follows the action on screen. Featuring a virtual top channel, every sound is precisely placed in space, placing you in the heart of the scene.
- SAMSUNG KNOX SECURITY: Your TV experiences are secured. Samsung Knox Security defends against harmful apps and phishing sites while keeping sensitive data, such as PINs and passwords, secure. It also safeguards your IoT devices connected to your TV.
- ONE UI TIZEN: Stream your favorite movies and shows and access your favorite apps and games on an intuitive smart TV platform, powered by Samsung Tizen OS.
- ENDLESS CONTENT: Access 2,700+ free channels including 400+ Samsung TV Plus premium channels with just your WiFiconnection. Enjoy national and local news, sports, movies, kids’ shows and more -live and on demand. With content frequently added, there’s always something new to discover.
Sony’s 2019 compatibility explainer also said PS Now was not supported on smart TVs, smartphones or tablets. The Samsung app is therefore discontinued, rather than a feature hidden by a TV setting or an account problem.
What did the original setup require?
Samsung’s December 2015 promotion listed these requirements for the PS Now trial on a compatible Samsung TV:

- A free PlayStation Network account.
- A select compatible Samsung Smart TV.
- A DUALSHOCK 4 controller.
- Broadband internet of 5 Mbps or greater.
These are historical setup requirements, not a way to use PS Now on a Samsung TV today. A DUALSHOCK 4 cannot bring back the discontinued app.
Does Samsung’s game-count announcement mean PS Now had 400 games?
No. Samsung’s December 2015 description of its upgraded 2016 Smart TV Games service said it offered more than 400 streaming games and 100 downloadable games. Those numbers described Samsung’s broader games offering; they should not be read as a guaranteed PS Now catalog count. Sony’s December 2014 announcement specifically described more than 200 PS3 titles for the planned PS Now integration.

Should you buy a Samsung TV or controller for PS Now?
Do not buy a Samsung TV expecting it to run PlayStation Now, and do not buy a DUALSHOCK 4 for the purpose of reviving the old TV app. The controller was required for the historical implementation, but hardware alone cannot restore a service Sony discontinued on Samsung TVs. Check Sony’s current supported-device information before choosing hardware for any PlayStation streaming service.
