Yes—How-To Geek’s Joe Fedewa reported getting DOOM to run on an Android Auto display with DOOM Mobile, a C# port of the original game. It was a one-setup demonstration, not a guarantee that the project works with every phone, car, or Android Auto version. The vehicle must be safely parked: Google says Android Auto games are not permitted while it is moving.
How DOOM appeared on an Android Auto screen
In a September 11, 2026 report syndicated by Yahoo Autos, Fedewa described using DOOM Mobile, a cross-platform implementation of the 1993 game. The project is described as a native C# port of the original engine, rather than an emulator or wrapper. After compiling the app into an APK and installing it on his phone, he found it in the Android Auto launcher and reported that it worked with touch controls.
That result establishes what happened in the author’s setup; it does not establish broad compatibility with other phones, vehicles, or software versions. The project also needs a DOOM data file, or .wad, to play beyond a short demo.
Why the APK needs to be built
Fedewa reported that the project did not have a ready-to-install APK in its Releases tab. Instead, he compiled the app and installed the resulting APK on his phone. The article names Microsoft Visual Studio with the .NET Multi-platform App UI workload or JetBrains Rider as build options. These are reported build routes, not a guarantee that a particular setup will compile successfully.

The article describes the rendering stack as hardware-accelerated SkiaSharp v3 integrated with DrawnUI for .NET MAUI. Game and level calculations run in C#, while a rendered texture is passed through a shader for GPU-side processing. Those are implementation details as presented in the article, rather than independently verified project-source findings.
What Google’s Android Auto rules mean for games
Google’s Android for Cars guidance says parked-game support on Android Auto is for devices running Android 15 or higher. In a September 2026 update, Google said the games category had graduated from beta to general availability. That platform-level support does not mean DOOM Mobile itself is approved for Google Play distribution.

Games are for parked use, not for passengers or drivers to play while the vehicle is moving. In a September 21, 2026 Android Developers Blog post, Developer Relations Engineer Jan Kleinert wrote: “Certain types of apps, like games, are considered parked apps and aren’t permitted to run while the vehicle is in motion to avoid driver distraction.”

What the demonstration does—and does not—show
- It shows: Fedewa reported that a self-built DOOM Mobile APK appeared in his Android Auto launcher and ran with touch controls.
- It does not show: that the app works across Android Auto-compatible phones and cars, or that Google Play distributes or approves this specific project.
- For gameplay: the project needs a DOOM
.wadfile to go beyond its short demo. - For safety: Android Auto games are restricted to when the vehicle is parked.
