Not by the normal CPU multiplier-overclocking method. The Intel Core i7-10700 is a locked processor, so you cannot raise its multiplier for a conventional overclock. Its advertised maximum Turbo Boost frequency of 4.80 GHz is automatic stock behavior—not a guaranteed all-core speed or a manual overclock.
Why the i7-10700’s multiplier cannot be overclocked
Intel identifies K- and X-series suffixes as indicating processors with unlocked frequency multipliers. The i7-10700 has neither suffix. Intel’s support guidance states that locked processor settings cannot be custom tuned. A Z-series motherboard does not change the CPU’s locked status.
For a conventional multiplier overclock, you need an unlocked K- or X-series processor and a compatible motherboard with overclocking support. Confirm the exact CPU, motherboard, socket, and BIOS compatibility before replacing hardware.
What 4.80 GHz means—and what it does not
Intel lists the i7-10700 at a 2.90 GHz base frequency and up to 4.80 GHz maximum Turbo Boost frequency. Intel defines maximum turbo as the highest single-core frequency achievable with Turbo Boost; the processor’s actual behavior depends on system configuration and operating conditions. It is not a promise that all eight cores will run at 4.80 GHz continuously.

The processor has 8 cores and 16 threads. If you want to check whether it is reaching its expected stock turbo behavior, monitor frequency, temperature, and power behavior while running your usual workload. Intel’s overclocking guidance recommends establishing a baseline and monitoring temperatures and voltage; heat or power limits can affect performance. Results and available controls depend on the individual system.
What the motherboard can and cannot change
Chipset support for overclocking features is separate from whether the processor multiplier is unlocked. Intel’s compatibility information lists these capabilities for chipsets compatible with the i7-10700:

These are chipset-level capabilities, not a way to unlock the i7-10700’s multiplier. Motherboard features and firmware can vary, so check the manufacturer’s documentation for your exact board. The available information does not establish a universal or reliable performance gain from BCLK or power-limit changes on every i7-10700 system; avoid assuming that a particular setting or result will apply to yours.
Can you overclock the memory instead?
Memory tuning is distinct from CPU multiplier overclocking. Intel lists DDR4-2933 as the i7-10700’s memory type, while its chipset information lists memory-overclocking support for some compatible chipsets. Whether you can tune memory—and which settings are available—depends on the motherboard, BIOS, memory kit, and system configuration. Check the board and memory documentation rather than assuming every chipset or setup permits it.

Will a better cooler let you overclock it?
No cooler can unlock the i7-10700’s multiplier. Cooling can help manage temperatures, and adequate cooling is important for overclocking unlocked processors, but it does not change the CPU’s locked status. Intel explains that higher speeds and voltages produce more heat and that overheating can trigger automatic throttling. The i7-10700’s listed TDP is 65 W and its listed Tjunction is 100°C; Tjunction is a specification, not a recommended operating target.
If replacing the CPU with an unlocked model, choose cooling and power delivery appropriate for that specific processor and motherboard. Check cooler mounting support for the replacement system’s socket and make sure the cooler fits your case.

What to do if you want better performance
- Check stock behavior first. Observe CPU frequency, temperatures, and power behavior during the workload that matters to you. Investigate cooling, power, and system settings if the processor is not sustaining expected stock turbo behavior.
- Treat board-specific tuning cautiously. BCLK, memory, and power-limit controls vary by chipset, motherboard, BIOS, CPU sample, cooling, and workload. There is no universal setting or performance gain established for the i7-10700.
- For multiplier overclocking, plan on a hardware change. An unlocked K- or X-series CPU and a compatible overclocking motherboard are required. Compare replacement cost and compatibility with whether your workload is likely to benefit from higher sustained CPU frequency; no specific performance improvement is guaranteed.
