Not reliably. You can livestream your own gameplay around the clock, but owning the recording and keeping a stream live 24/7 do not guarantee YouTube monetization or protect a channel from a reused-content decision. YouTube warns that gameplay videos showing little beyond extended play may not be accepted for monetization. There is no stated 24/7 safe harbor or blanket ban; the content, channel context, and game publisher’s commercial-use terms all matter.
What YouTube’s reused-content policy means for gameplay
YouTube describes reused content as repurposed material from YouTube or another online source that lacks significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. The policy applies to the channel as a whole, not just one stream. Reviewers may consider the videos, channel description, titles, and descriptions to understand whether the creator made or meaningfully contributed to the content. YouTube’s channel monetization policies also apply to live streams.
Self-recorded gameplay is not automatically reused content. But recording the game yourself is not, on its own, proof that the channel satisfies YouTube’s originality and value standards. Reviewers need to be able to tell what you contributed.

Why a 24/7 gameplay stream can be risky
YouTube’s guidance for video game and software content says monetization may depend on commercial-use rights granted by the publisher. It also warns: “Videos simply showing a user playing a video game or the use of software for extended periods of time may not be accepted for monetization.” The game-content guidance identifies step-by-step commentary tied to live action, with instructional or educational value, as a possible basis for monetization.

A continuous broadcast made up mostly of uninterrupted play and little original contribution therefore carries a policy risk. That is an inference from YouTube’s extended-gameplay warning and its general originality and value criteria—not a specific rule about 24/7 streams. The official guidance establishes neither a maximum stream duration nor a categorical prohibition on running gameplay continuously.
Make the stream’s contribution clear
- Comment on what is actually happening in the game, rather than relying on unrelated or generic narration.
- Explain decisions, techniques, or strategies as you play; YouTube specifically identifies step-by-step commentary tied to the live action that provides instructional or educational value.
- Give the broadcast a distinct purpose and make that purpose clear in accurate titles, descriptions, and the channel’s About section.
These are ways to make authorship and viewer value more apparent, not guarantees of monetization approval. Commentary alone does not settle a channel review.

Gameplay rights and reused-content review are separate
Two questions need separate answers: does the channel meet YouTube’s monetization policies, and does the game publisher grant the rights needed for commercial use? YouTube says game monetization may depend on commercial-use rights from the publisher. Check the current terms for the specific game, including livestreaming and monetization; without the game title, its license cannot be assessed.
Copyright permission, a lack of copyright claims, or a belief that a use is fair does not by itself clear a channel under the reused-content policy. YouTube says reused-content review is distinct from copyright enforcement: a creator may have permission and still need to demonstrate meaningful original contribution, while having no copyright claim does not establish monetization eligibility. How to assess your channel before relying on a 24/7 schedule
- Check the publisher’s current terms. Confirm that commercial use and livestreaming of the particular game are allowed on the terms that apply to you.
- Review the stream itself. Ask whether a viewer can identify your contribution beyond the game’s standard audio and visuals, and whether commentary or other creative input adds useful educational or entertainment value.
- Look at the whole channel. YouTube says reviewers may consider the overall theme, most-viewed and newest videos, the largest share of watch time, metadata, and the About section. Make the channel’s actual purpose and your role in producing the content legible.
- Consider repetition. If streams are interchangeable or repeat the same material without meaningful original contribution, that may make the channel’s value harder to distinguish. This is a practical concern under the channel-wide originality review, not a separate 24/7 rule.
- Treat monetization as a review outcome, not an automatic result. YouTube says channels must follow monetization policies, are reviewed before YPP acceptance, and are subject to continuing review. What changed in YouTube’s terminology
On July 15, 2025, YouTube renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” to clarify that repetitive or mass-produced content is covered. YouTube said the change did not alter its reused-content policy. The channel monetization policy remains the relevant guidance for reused content.
