Yes—if you claimed a PlayStation Plus monthly game, it remains in your account library and you can play it while your membership is active. A game from the Extra or Premium Game Catalog is different: if it leaves the catalog, downloading it does not preserve your access. These rules describe PlayStation’s US service; plan names and game availability can vary by country.
Monthly games and catalog games are different benefits
PlayStation Plus offers both monthly games and, on eligible higher tiers, rotating game catalogs. They can look similar once downloaded, but the access rules are not the same.

PlayStation’s monthly-game instructions explain how to claim and download titles. Its US PlayStation Plus FAQ distinguishes games that remain available to active members from catalog titles that can have announced end dates.
How to claim a monthly game
Claim the game while it is offered so it is associated with your account library. A download alone is not the same thing as claiming it.

- On PS4: Open the PlayStation Plus monthly games offer, select the game, then choose Add to Library > Download.
- On PS5: Open the monthly game offer, select the game, and download it.
PlayStation describes monthly games as available to download and play at no extra cost during a PlayStation Plus membership. Once claimed, the entitlement remains tied to the account, but playing through that entitlement still requires an active membership.
What happens when membership expires?
If your membership becomes inactive, you cannot play a claimed monthly game through the PS Plus entitlement. The game may still appear in your library, but that does not mean it is permanently yours to play. If you renew the membership on the account that claimed it, the PS Plus access becomes available again under PlayStation’s stated membership rules.

What happens when a catalog game leaves?
Extra and Premium catalog games can have removal dates. When a title leaves the catalog, access through that subscription benefit ends—even if the game is still installed. PlayStation says end dates are publicized ahead of time; check the current catalog listing for the particular title and your region rather than relying on an old list.
If the title is still sold on the PlayStation Store for your territory, edition, and platform, purchasing it is the documented way to access it independently of the catalog. That option depends on the specific game remaining for sale; it is not available for every title that leaves.

What happens to DLC and add-ons?
PlayStation says access to DLC and add-ons associated with a catalog game is also lost if the membership expires or the game leaves the service. Purchased DLC can be used again after you resubscribe or buy the game, as applicable. PlayStation also says DLC and add-ons are not supported when streaming a title.
Can you play downloaded catalog games offline?
A PlayStation Blog guide published May 23, 2022 says downloaded Extra and Premium catalog games require a connection to PSN every seven days to validate membership. The guide explicitly excludes downloadable monthly games from that check. Because this guidance is from 2022, confirm current offline-validation behavior with PlayStation if it is important to your setup. See the PlayStation Plus guide.

Which PlayStation Plus tiers include catalogs?
In PlayStation’s US plan description, Essential includes monthly games; Extra adds the Game Catalog; and Premium includes the Game Catalog and Classics Catalog. Plan names, features, and catalog availability may differ in other markets. Consult the PlayStation Plus support page for the applicable regional plan details.
