Samsung Galaxy phones and tablets support Home screen widgets, and compatible software versions also offer Lock screen widgets, called “Brief widgets” in some newer Samsung instructions. The Home screen steps are broadly consistent; Lock screen features and menu names depend on your Galaxy model, One UI version, and region.
What kinds of widgets can you use?
A widget is a small, interactive view from an app that sits on a screen rather than requiring you to open the app first. On Samsung Galaxy devices, the two placements to know about are the Home screen and, on supported software, the Lock screen. Some configurations can also show Lock screen widgets on the Always On Display (AOD).
| Placement | Where it appears | What affects availability |
|---|---|---|
| Home screen | On a Home screen page alongside app icons | The apps installed on your device determine which widgets are offered. |
| Lock screen | On the Lock screen; some supported configurations can show widgets on AOD | One UI version, device, region, and available widget apps can affect the feature and menus. |
Widgets are supplied by apps, so Samsung support for widgets does not mean every app has one or that every widget works on every Galaxy model. Samsung’s instructions also show that Lock screen choices can change over time.
Add a widget to the Home screen
- On the Home screen, touch and hold an empty area.
- Tap Widgets.
- Find the app, select the widget type and size you want, then tap Add. Complete any setup prompt that appears.
For Samsung’s instructions, see how to use widgets on a Galaxy phone and its guide to adding and editing Galaxy widgets. Menu labels may vary by software version.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Move, resize, or remove a Home screen widget
- Move: Touch and hold the widget, then drag it to the new position.
- Resize: On Samsung’s One UI 7 instructions, touch and hold the widget and drag a corner handle.
- Remove: Open the widget’s context menu and choose the removal option. This removes the widget from the screen, not the app itself.
If you cannot edit the layout
Check whether the Home screen layout is locked. If it is, turn off the layout lock in Home screen settings before trying to change the arrangement. Samsung also says Home screen widgets cannot be added, moved, deleted, or edited in landscape mode on One UI 7; rotate the device to portrait to make those changes. See Samsung’s One UI 7 widget instructions and Home screen layout-lock guidance.
Add widgets to the Lock screen
Lock screen widget support and its exact setup route depend on the software and device. Samsung’s Gulf instructions for One UI 7 or later describe this route:

Samsung’s newer Brief widgets instructions give another route: go to Settings > Wallpaper and style, select the current Lock screen, and tap Add widgets. Select a widget to see its available styles, choose one, and tap Done. On some software, holding the Lock screen opens its settings instead. Follow the route shown on your device if the labels differ. See Samsung’s Lock screen widget instructions and Brief widgets guide.
Lock screen widgets and Always On Display
Samsung Australia states that its Lock screen widget setting is available on Galaxy devices running One UI 6.1 or later and that widgets appear on AOD when Always On Display is enabled. That guidance is for Australian-variant devices; availability and menus elsewhere may differ. Check Samsung’s Australian Lock screen widget guide for its regional details.

Example: Galaxy S25 with One UI 8
Samsung UK’s One UI 8 guide for Galaxy S25 names Camera, Device Care, Digital Wellbeing, Gallery, Interpreter, and Modes and Routines among its Lock screen widget options. It describes adding a widget by holding an empty Lock screen area, choosing Add widgets, selecting a category, arranging widgets by dragging, and tapping Done. This is an example for the Galaxy S25, not a complete list for every Galaxy device. See Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Lock screen widget guide.
