You can use PlayStation Plus for free only if Sony offers an eligible free trial or promotion for your account and region. There is no guaranteed permanent free membership. Check the offer in your PlayStation account, read its renewal terms, and cancel before the displayed end date if you do not want to be charged.

How to check for an official free PS Plus offer

Sign in to your PlayStation account through the PlayStation Store on your console or the official PlayStation website, then look for a PlayStation Plus free trial or promotion.

If you accept a trial but do not want a paid subscription afterward, note the displayed end date and cancel before it. Sony’s US terms say benefits continue until the last day of the trial even if you cancel earlier.

Sony says a trial may be available only in certain countries or regions, and generally limits eligibility to one free trial per person unless it communicates otherwise. Offers and eligibility can change, so an offer another account or region can see may not appear for yours. Read Sony’s US PS Plus usage terms; outside the US, check the terms and offer for your region.

What happens when the trial ends?

In Sony’s US terms, a free trial normally converts automatically into a recurring paid subscription at the billing frequency selected during sign-up unless you cancel before it expires. The US trial requires a registered credit or debit card or PayPal account; payment requirements may differ in other countries. The offer shown at sign-up is the place to verify the applicable payment method, renewal date, and charge.

To cancel, use PlayStation’s subscription management options for your account. Sony’s instructions are at How to manage subscriptions on PlayStation. Cancel before the trial’s displayed end date if you want to avoid renewal. Under the cited US terms, canceling early does not immediately end trial benefits.

Free trial, discounted offer, or no offer?

What you see	What it means	What to check
Free trial	Temporary access at no charge under an eligible offer; it is not a permanent free membership.	Eligibility, duration, payment method, renewal date, billing frequency, and price after the trial, as displayed for your account.
Discounted promotion	A paid subscription offered at a reduced price. It is not free access.	The amount due now, the renewal price and frequency, and the date the offer ends.
No trial or promotion appears	Sony has not made an eligible offer available to your account in the store you checked.	Availability may depend on region, subscriber status, and timing; there is no universal trial that every account can claim.

How to avoid unsafe “free PS Plus” offers

Use the official PlayStation Store and account pages to verify an offer. Do not share your sign-in or authentication details with someone promising membership access; Sony tells users to protect this information in its US Terms of Service.
Do not treat an unofficial code as guaranteed access. Sony’s terms describe restrictions that can apply to promotional codes, including region, age, expiration, and transfer limits.

Do not create extra accounts to try to get around trial eligibility. Sony says additional limitations may apply to prevent misuse.

What a PS Plus trial includes

The benefits available depend on the offer, subscription tier, region, and other account or device conditions. PlayStation Plus games and other content can change; included titles may be available for a limited time and can vary by tier and region. Check the offer and current service details on PlayStation Plus rather than assuming a particular game or feature is included in every trial.
