Yes. Riot says rank boosting violates its Terms of Use, and its published penalties include suspension and, for repeat offenders, a full League of Legends account ban. The detailed penalty ladder cited here comes from Riot’s Season 2024 Split 2 notice, so treat it as a season-specific statement rather than a guarantee that every later case receives identical penalties.
What does Riot prohibit?
Riot Games Support lists rank boosting alongside account trading and profile sharing as activities that violate its Terms of Use. Its account-protection guidance, dated June 1, 2026, says: “Rank boosting, account trading, profile sharing… All of these activities violate our Terms of Use.” Riot’s Protecting Your Account guidance is the current direct source for that rule.
Riot’s support materials also use the label “MMR / Elo Boosting – Rank Manipulation” for the related topic. The available policy wording does not establish a complete definition covering every possible arrangement. It therefore does not support a blanket claim that ordinary coaching, self-play, or every high-rank/low-rank duo is prohibited.
What penalties can boosting bring?
Riot’s End of Season 2024 – Split 2 notice says detected boosted accounts or boosting behavior result in an immediate account suspension, Honor-level removal, and exclusion from seasonal or split ranked rewards. It adds that repeat offenders receive a full League of Legends account ban.

- Boosting behavior or a boosted account: The notice lists immediate account suspension.
- Honor and rewards: The notice lists Honor-level removal and loss of eligibility for seasonal or split ranked rewards.
- Repeat offenses: Riot states that repeat offenders receive a full game account ban.
These are the consequences Riot published for Season 2024 Split 2. That notice does not establish that the same penalty ladder remains unchanged for every later season or individual enforcement decision.
Who could be affected?
Riot’s wording covers both “boosted accounts” and “boosting behavior,” so the risk is not described only as a penalty for the person who performs the boosting. Riot’s separate account-protection guidance says the account owner should be the only person with access and warns that sharing account access can put the account at risk of a ban.

Riot’s Instant Feedback System FAQ says players are responsible for activity on their accounts, but it addresses disruptive in-game behavior and links to a separate boosting FAQ. Its unrelated behavior penalties should not be treated as boosting penalties; for boosting, the season-specific ranked-rewards notice is the source for the consequences listed above.
