Yes. You can generate a 3D model from text or an image using a browser-based AI service that runs the generation on cloud GPUs, so you do not need a dedicated GPU in your own computer for that step. You still need an internet connection, and a generated model may need inspection or refinement before it is suitable for an animated character or production work.
What “no GPU required” means
In a cloud-generation workflow, you send a prompt or image to a service, its remote computers create the model, and you download the result. The GPU workload is on the service’s infrastructure, not your computer. TripoSR’s documentation describes its browser workflow this way: “Everything runs in your browser on cloud GPUs, so you do not need a local GPU or any install.” That statement describes TripoSR’s setup, not every AI character tool. This removes a local-GPU requirement for generation, not every hardware or connectivity requirement. You need internet access to use the cloud service. Editing the downloaded model, rigging it, animating it, and rendering a scene are separate tasks; their requirements depend on the software and the work you want to do.
How to generate a model and bring it into Blender
Choose text or image input
Use a text prompt when you want to describe a character from scratch. An image-to-3D workflow is a better starting point when you have a specific visual reference. TripoSR documents both input routes, browser-based cloud generation, and GLB download. Its documentation says an account is required and generation uses 12–20 credits depending on texture quality. Generate, inspect, and download
- Open the service in a browser. Create an account if required and confirm the credit cost and current usage terms.
- Submit a prompt or image. Use a clear reference or description that matches the kind of character you need.
- Review the output before relying on it. Check the shape, surface, and whether the model is usable for your intended task. A generated mesh is not automatically a finished, animated character.
- Download a supported format. TripoSR documents GLB export. In Blender, import the downloaded file and check its scale, materials, geometry, and compatibility with your project.
GLB is a documented export option for TripoSR; do not assume every generator supports the same formats or that every exported model will import with the same results. TripoSR documentation
When you need a rigged, animated character
A character intended to move needs more than a visually convincing static mesh. It may need a skeleton, a usable rig, and geometry that deforms appropriately when posed. Bake3D describes a workflow that includes inspecting geometry, checking the rig and deformation, and refining results when needed. Bake3D describes rigged GLB and FBX output. Its displayed page lists a free sign-up allowance for personal use and commercial licensing for output made with purchased credits. Before choosing, check whether the service accepts text, images, or both; whether it outputs a mesh or an articulated rig; what inspection and refinement options it provides; which formats your editor can use; and what its account, credit, pricing, and commercial-use terms allow.

What your computer needs after generation
Downloading a model does not make local editing or rendering a cloud task. If you plan to use Blender on your own computer, check the requirements for the Blender release and operating system you intend to use. Blender’s official requirements page lists a minimum of 8 GB RAM and 2 GB VRAM for its Windows and Linux configurations, along with operating-system-specific requirements. How to judge speed claims
Generation time varies by service, input, and settings. A 2023 paper on Make-A-Character reports that its research framework can generate a text-prompted avatar within 2 minutes. That is a result for the paper’s framework, not a general speed guarantee for today’s commercial services. Make-A-Character paper
Learning Blender after downloading a character
If you want a structured introduction to Blender modeling and character work, InformIT lists Learning Blender, Third Edition by Oliver Villar as covering character design, modeling, unwrapping, texturing, shading, rigging, and animation. The listing says the edition is updated for Blender 2.83 LTS and beyond and carries a 2021 copyright, so it is an older Blender reference—not a guide to current AI character generators.
