Not based on APITemplate.io’s documented n8n workflow. The available documentation describes generating images from saved templates and structured data, and creating PDFs in n8n; it does not demonstrate opening an arbitrary website URL and capturing the live page. For actual website screenshots, use a webpage-capture API. If your goal is instead to generate a PDF in n8n, APITemplate.io documents that workflow.
What APITemplate.io can generate
APITemplate.io’s API reference describes generating JPEG or PNG images and PDFs from a saved template populated with JSON data. Its image example applies named object overrides to a template. That is a different operation from visiting a supplied URL in a browser and capturing the page. The reference does not establish a live-webpage screenshot endpoint: APITemplate.io API reference.
For a screenshot workflow, the input is usually a URL whose rendered page you want to capture. For APITemplate.io’s documented image workflow, the input is template data; the output is a rendered image of that template. For its documented n8n integration, the primary example produces a PDF. Do not substitute the template-image or PDF endpoint for a live-page screenshot.

APITemplate.io’s integration guide documents preparing a PDF template, adding the API key to n8n credentials, and then using either its built-in node or an HTTP Request node. The guide says the built-in node uses V1 and recommends the HTTP Request route for V2’s performance improvements and newer features. Its V2 example creates a PDF, not a screenshot: APITemplate.io’s n8n integration guide.

Prepare the template and credentials
- Create a PDF template in APITemplate.io using its visual or HTML editor. Define the fields that n8n will populate and note the template ID.
- In n8n, save the APITemplate.io API key in credentials. Avoid placing a secret directly in workflow data.
- Choose the built-in APITemplate.io node if you intend to follow the guide’s V1 route, or an HTTP Request node for the guide’s V2 PDF example.
Configure the V2 HTTP Request node
Use the endpoint and request shape shown in APITemplate.io’s guide:
- Method: POST
- URL:
https://rest.apitemplate.io/v2/create-pdf - Authentication header:
X-API-KEY, with the key stored through n8n credentials - Query parameter:
template_id, set to the saved template’s ID - Body: JSON containing the values for the template fields
The guide describes passing the response’s download_url to later workflow steps, such as storage or email. Refer to the vendor’s current guide for the exact JSON body fields required by your template; the API reference also contains V1 details, but it should not be treated as a substitute for the guide’s V2 PDF request.

Handle PDF jobs that take longer
For longer-running PDF generation, APITemplate.io describes an asynchronous option that notifies an n8n webhook when the file is ready. Use that approach when a workflow should continue after the generation job completes rather than relying on an immediate response. Configure the webhook and callback handling according to the integration guide.
How to choose the right workflow
| What you need | Input | Documented output or route |
|---|---|---|
| Capture an existing live webpage | A webpage URL | Not demonstrated by the APITemplate.io documentation cited here; use a dedicated webpage screenshot API. |
| Render a reusable APITemplate.io image | Saved template plus JSON field overrides | JPEG or PNG template rendering, as described in the API reference. |
| Create a PDF in n8n | Saved PDF template plus values supplied by the workflow | Built-in node using V1, or HTTP Request to the documented V2 PDF endpoint. |
n8n describes itself as a platform for connecting apps through APIs and manipulating their data with little or no code, with cloud, npm, and self-host options: n8n documentation. The workflow’s input and required output determine whether a template-rendering integration or a screenshot service is appropriate.

Troubleshooting the documented PDF workflow
- The result is a PDF, not an image of a webpage: the documented V2 endpoint is for PDF creation. A URL in workflow data does not turn that endpoint into a browser capture service.
- The API rejects the request: confirm the API key is sent in the
X-API-KEYheader, the request uses POST, and thetemplate_ididentifies the intended template. Compare the body with the fields defined in that template and the current vendor guide. - A later workflow step cannot retrieve the file: pass the response’s
download_urlto that step, as the integration guide describes, and check that the preceding request completed successfully. - Generation is taking longer than the workflow expects: use the documented asynchronous webhook option for longer-running PDF jobs and arrange for n8n to receive the completion notification.
- You expected a page screenshot from an image template request: the API reference’s image generation uses template-object overrides; it does not demonstrate visiting and capturing an arbitrary URL.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need an actual webpage screenshot in n8n, call ScreenshotNeo, a screenshot API whose one-call request accepts a URL and returns an image or PDF. Its clean-shot steps can accept cookie or consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and the response reports the page verdict and billing status. It also has an MCP server for AI agents, with take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools.
For n8n, configure an HTTP Request node to make a GET request to the API endpoint, keep your access key in credentials, and pass the URL to capture. The cURL equivalent is:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options and response handling. ScreenshotNeo’s free plan includes 1,000 shots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Sign up for free and get 1,000 screenshots a month with no card.
