Yes. If YouTube terminated your channel because of copyright infringement claims and you believe the claims are wrong, YouTube says you may file a copyright counter notification. That is the relevant copyright process—not the ordinary Community Guidelines termination appeal. YouTube says terminated creators can submit a counter notification through Studio or by email, fax, or postal mail.
“Appeal” can mean several different things on YouTube. First identify whether the issue is a copyright removal and strike, a Content ID claim, or a Community Guidelines termination; the right route depends on which one applies.
First, identify what happened to the livestream
A livestream interruption, a copyright strike, and a Content ID claim on an archived stream are not interchangeable. Check the termination email and any information YouTube still makes available after signing in.

| Copyright removal request and strike | A copyright takedown removed content and resulted in a strike. | If you believe the removal was mistaken or misidentified, consider a counter notification. YouTube’s copyright-strike guidance. |
| Content ID claim | A claim against content, including content in an archived livestream; a claim is not automatically a strike. | Challenge the claim through the Content ID process. If a later appeal leads to a valid copyright removal request and removal, a counter notification may then be available. YouTube’s Content ID dispute and appeal guidance. |
| Community Guidelines termination | A termination under YouTube’s platform rules, rather than a copyright removal request. | Use the separate Community Guidelines termination appeal process. YouTube states an appeal may be made within one year, with limits on the number of appeals. YouTube’s termination guidance. |
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, including another live broadcast. When it detects a match, it may display a placeholder and warn the creator; if the material remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. A stream may also be terminated if the channel receives a copyright or Community Guidelines strike. For an active livestream removed for copyright, YouTube says live-streaming access is restricted for seven days. If the stream is archived, Content ID claims are made after it ends. How to submit a copyright counter notification after termination
- Review the termination information. Check the email from YouTube and sign in to review the information that remains available. YouTube says termination removes access to the Studio dashboard and other features, but creators can still sign in to review termination information. Channel or account terminations — YouTube Help.
- Confirm that the termination is tied to copyright claims. YouTube’s counter-notification option applies when the channel was terminated because of copyright infringement claims and you believe those claims are incorrect. It is not a substitute for a Community Guidelines appeal.
- Use YouTube’s current counter-notification instructions. YouTube says terminated creators can submit through Studio or by email, fax, or postal mail. Follow the current instructions for the route available to you. Submit a copyright counter notification.
- Explain why removal was a mistake or misidentification. YouTube asks for a clear explanation. If relevant, that can include why you believe the use qualifies for a copyright exception such as fair use, fair dealing, or public domain. The instructions also request your legal name and contact information and a direct link to the removed content, among other information.
- Submit only if you have a genuine basis. A counter notification is a legal process, not a way to restore a channel simply because a claim is inconvenient. YouTube warns that false information or fraudulent documentation can lead to account termination or other legal consequences.
You may have an authorized representative, such as an attorney, submit on your behalf. YouTube says it shares the counter notification with the claimant, so consider getting qualified legal advice if you are unsure about your position or the information you would be submitting. What happens after YouTube forwards it
If YouTube finds the counter notification valid and forwards it to the claimant, the associated copyright strike may be cleared. The claimant then has 10 US business days, according to YouTube’s explanation of the process, to provide evidence of legal action to keep the content from being reinstated. If YouTube does not receive such evidence in that period, it says the content will be reinstated unless you deleted it. These are the platform’s stated steps, not a guarantee that a particular counter notification will be accepted or succeed. YouTube’s counter-notification instructions.

Do not confuse it with the other appeal routes
Community Guidelines termination appeal
This is a separate Studio appeal process for a termination under Community Guidelines. YouTube states that creators have up to one year to appeal and can submit only two appeals within that one-year period, subject to a limit for a single termination. YouTube directs creators terminated for copyright claims to the counter-notification process instead. Do not assume the Community Guidelines deadline applies to a copyright counter notification. Content ID claim dispute or appeal
A Content ID dispute challenges a claim; it is not itself a counter notification. If an appeal results in a copyright removal request and the video is removed, YouTube says a creator who believes that removal was mistaken may then submit a counter notification. YouTube’s Content ID guidance.

Other ways a copyright strike may be resolved
- Ask the claimant to retract the removal request. YouTube lists retraction as one way to resolve a strike.
- Complete Copyright School and wait. YouTube says a strike may expire after 90 days if Copyright School is completed. Expiration does not reinstate the removed video. YouTube’s copyright-strike guidance.
A counter notification is appropriate only when you have a genuine basis to say the removal was mistaken or misidentified, including a potentially applicable copyright exception. If you are uncertain about the legal position, consider consulting a qualified attorney before submitting information that will be shared with the claimant.
Keep future YouTube streams separate from this dispute
Resolving a terminated channel’s copyright issue is separate from keeping a future YouTube stream running. StreamNeo is a cloud service for looping uploaded videos on YouTube; it does not stream live camera footage or determine copyright ownership. You still need the right to use everything in a video you upload.
Or let it run in the cloud
Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo runs the loop in the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the upload at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start the free day.
