No. Yamaha does not document a supported way to add separate wired or wireless surround speakers to the YAS-209. The bar provides DTS Virtual:X processing for a virtual surround effect and comes with a wireless subwoofer, but it has no documented speaker outputs for connecting passive rear speakers such as Yamaha NS-333s.
Why you can’t connect separate speakers
Yamaha’s YAS-209 specifications list HDMI, optical, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, but no speaker terminals or separate speaker output. They also list no subwoofer output. That means passive bookshelf speakers cannot be connected directly to the soundbar, and Yamaha does not document an add-on wireless surround kit for this model.
Adding a separate amplifier or adapter would not create a supported integration path: Yamaha does not specify that the YAS-209 can send audio to external rear speakers. Avoid treating an improvised connection as a compatible surround setup.
What the YAS-209 uses instead
DTS Virtual:X
The YAS-209 processes audio to create a virtual surround effect. Yamaha’s YAS-209 Quick Start Guide says, “This unit supports virtual 3D surround sound technology called ‘DTS Virtual:X’.” This processing is not the same as discrete rear channels played through physical speakers.

Included wireless subwoofer
The included subwoofer is the supported bass component, not an expansion port for additional speakers. Yamaha says in its Quick Start Guide that “The supplied wireless subwoofer enables more dynamic audio playback.” The owner’s manual describes manual pairing as a way to reconnect that supplied subwoofer, not as support for pairing extra speakers. Don’t confuse other Yamaha models’ features with YAS-209 compatibility
Yamaha’s specification table marks MusicCast Surround unavailable for the YAS-209. The same table lists MusicCast Surround support for the MusicCast BAR 400, and a subwoofer output for the YAS-109; those are features of the listed comparison models, not of the YAS-209.

Yamaha’s published ratings for the YAS-209 are 200 W total: 50 W × 2 for the center unit and 100 W for the subwoofer. These are manufacturer ratings, not independent measurements, and do not indicate that additional speakers can be attached.

What to look for if you need physical rear speakers
Choose a sound system whose manufacturer explicitly documents rear-speaker or surround-kit compatibility. Before buying, check:

- Whether surround comes from physical rear speakers or virtual processing.
- Whether a subwoofer is included or requires a separate connection.
- What cabling, amplification and placement the setup requires.
Yamaha’s US specifications and YAS-209 support page currently label the model discontinued. That describes Yamaha’s listing, not the stock or condition of any particular retailer’s offer.
