Generally, no: the sources available do not confirm a passenger car that can accept 750 kW or megawatt charging. A charger’s rating is its maximum capability, not the power every vehicle receives. Your car can draw only what its charging system is designed to accept, and the connector, charger limits, battery state, temperature, and vehicle controls can reduce the actual rate further.
If a charger is rated at 750 kW, will my car charge at 750 kW?
Only if the vehicle is built to accept that much power and the charger, connection, battery conditions, and controls all permit it. A high-rated charger does not increase a car’s own charging limit.
Chevrolet illustrates the distinction with a 150 kW-acceptance vehicle connected to a 350 kW station: in its example, the vehicle charges at 150 kW. That is Chevrolet’s guidance, not a universal charging result for every car or station. Chevrolet’s DC fast-charging guidance
Power is the product of voltage and current. The charging system communicates limits, and the vehicle controls how much current it requests. CharIN’s 2025 recommendations describe this exchange and the thermal-management responsibilities of both the vehicle and charging equipment. CharIN’s MCS recommendations

Peak power is not a steady charging rate
A car may reach its peak only briefly. Chevrolet says full station output is available for a short period to protect the battery; it gives about 10 minutes around 10–40% state of charge in moderate temperatures as an example. That is general manufacturer guidance, not a charging curve that applies to every model. Charging power can also be limited by battery temperature and state of charge.
What does “megawatt charging” mean?
Megawatt Charging System (MCS) is a distinct high-power charging system associated in the cited sources with heavy-duty vehicles, not a higher setting that an ordinary passenger car can use simply by plugging in. The International Electrotechnical Commission’s IEC 61851-23-3:2026 covers MCS DC supply equipment with a coupler specified by IEC TS 63379. It specifies EV-side voltage up to 1,250 V DC and points to ISO 5474-3:2024 Annex B for related vehicle requirements. IEC 61851-23-3:2026

Scania describes current battery-electric trucks as typically using CCS2 at up to 350–400 kW, and cites MCS charging power designed to reach 3.75 MW. Those figures concern heavy-duty vehicles and MCS design, not passenger-car charging capability. Scania’s MCS explainer
CharIN’s 2025 Version 2.0 recommendations give a recommended MCS operating range of 400–1,250 V DC. That is an industry recommendation; it is distinct from the IEC standard’s stated scope. In a 2025 account of stakeholder views, the European Commission describes an allowance of up to 3 MW and a view that up to 1 MW could be sufficient for road-vehicle rest breaks. Neither figure is a passenger-car specification. European Commission account of stakeholder views

How passenger-car charging compares with heavy-duty MCS
| Charging context | Vehicle or equipment described | Power or voltage figure | What the figure means |
|---|---|---|---|
| Passenger-car DC fast charging | Vehicle’s own acceptance limit and compatible station | Depends on the specific vehicle and station | A station’s rating does not override the car’s acceptance limit; check the model’s specifications and charging curve. |
| CCS2 truck charging | Current battery-electric trucks, according to Scania | Typically up to 350–400 kW | Scania’s description of truck charging, not a passenger-car benchmark. |
| MCS | Heavy-duty charging system described by IEC and Scania | Scania cites up to 3.75 MW designed charging power; IEC 61851-23-3:2026 specifies EV-side voltage up to 1,250 V DC | A heavy-duty system with its own coupler and vehicle-side requirements; these specifications do not establish passenger-car compatibility. |

How to check whether your car can use a high-power station
- Find the car’s DC acceptance rating and charging curve. Check the owner’s manual or market-specific specifications for your exact model and version. A peak figure is not the same as the rate sustained through a charging session.
- Check the connector and charging standard. Confirm that the station’s connector and protocol match your vehicle. Do not assume an adapter gives the car MCS compatibility or raises its power limit.
- Check the specific port’s limits. Look for its actual power, voltage, and current ratings, rather than relying only on a headline figure for the whole site. Vehicle and charger limits both matter.
- Allow for battery conditions. State of charge and temperature can change the rate; the car may spend only a short time near its peak.
- Compare realistic performance, not just peak ratings. ISO/SAE 12906:2024 defines procedures for determining charging performance and enabling consistent comparison of realistic EV charging capability using commercially available EV supply equipment. ISO/SAE 12906:2024
What the published standards and figures establish
The standards and industry material define MCS equipment, interfaces, and charging limits, while the manufacturer examples distinguish station output from vehicle acceptance. They do not establish that a passenger car available today can accept 750 kW or megawatt power. Because vehicle specifications vary by model and market, confirm compatibility in the exact car’s current documentation and with the station operator’s port details.
