Yes—the BOSGAME VTA-439 can run LLMs on its dedicated Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 NPU through a documented Linux setup using FastFlowLM. In LinuxLinks’ Ubuntu 26.04 walkthrough, Qwen3 8B decoding reached 11.51 tokens per second at 1K context and 6.03 tokens per second at 32K context. Those are results from that specific setup, not a guarantee for every installation. The walkthrough uses FastFlowLM; BOSGAME’s separate claim about running Llama 3 8B with Ollama does not establish NPU acceleration.
What the VTA-439 hardware provides
BOSGAME lists a VTA-439 configuration with an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 470 processor, Radeon 890M graphics, 32 GB of DDR5 SO-DIMM memory, and a 1 TB M.2 2280 NVMe PCIe 4.0 x4 SSD. The manufacturer describes the memory as dual-channel and upgradeable, and lists three M.2 2280 NVMe bays. BOSGAME advertises 55 TOPS for the dedicated NPU and 86 TOPS for total system AI performance. These are manufacturer specifications; TOPS is a peak-performance measure, not a direct prediction of LLM token speed. Actual inference also depends on software support, model and quantization, context length, and which processor is doing the work.

LinuxLinks author Steve Emms documented an NPU inference path with Ubuntu 26.04 and FastFlowLM 1.0.0 in a walkthrough published September 14, 2026. The setup requires the AMD amdxdna driver, firmware, and XRT userspace stack before running FastFlowLM. The author then uses flm validate to check the setup before inference. Follow the current project instructions for installation: driver, firmware, and userspace requirements can change between software versions.

- Prepare the Linux system. Use the walkthrough’s Ubuntu 26.04 environment as the documented example, and install the required AMD NPU driver, firmware, and XRT userspace components.
- Validate the stack. Run
flm validateas described by FastFlowLM’s walkthrough, and resolve reported setup issues before attempting model inference. - Try a small model. Emms first runs
llama3.2:1b, then testsqwen3:8b. Starting with the smaller model is a practical way to confirm that inference works before evaluating a larger workload.
The walkthrough also demonstrates FastFlowLM server mode with OpenAI-compatible requests over a local network, with inference running on the NPU. That shows a possible LAN use; it is not evidence that the example is hardened for production or secure by default. These figures belong to Emms’ FastFlowLM setup, not an independent lab-wide benchmark or a result guaranteed on other software configurations. The same article says HX 470 decoding was approximately 8% faster than on a Ryzen AI 9 HX PRO 370 system in its comparison. That comparison is specific to the author’s test conditions.

Decode speed is only one part of the experience. Prefill and time-to-first-token vary with context, so a tokens-per-second figure for generation does not, on its own, tell you how quickly a model begins responding. The reported drop at longer context also illustrates why benchmark conditions matter when comparing systems.

What 32 GB of memory means for model choice
The listed configuration has 32 GB of system memory. Phoronix’s July 14, 2026 review says this VTA-439 configuration cannot fit models as large as the 64 GB and 128 GB systems in its comparison, while describing it as a contender for smaller models. The practical limit depends on the model, its quantization, context length, and memory used by the operating system and other applications; the available comparison does not establish a universal maximum model size. Before choosing a system or model, compare memory capacity and whether the model and quantization fit, then check the inference backend (NPU, integrated GPU, or CPU), context length, generation speed, and time-to-first-token. The VTA-439 has upgradeable memory according to BOSGAME, but the reviewed 32 GB configuration should not be treated as equivalent to systems with 64 GB or 128 GB installed.

FastFlowLM results do not prove Ollama uses the NPU
BOSGAME separately says the VTA-439 can run Llama 3 8B locally through Ollama without cloud access or API keys. That is a company claim about local model use, not evidence that Ollama is executing on the HX 470 NPU. The NPU-specific Linux demonstration described above uses FastFlowLM.
