Yes, if you provide Restreamer with a continuous video source that already combines the static image and radio audio. Current datarhei documentation says Restreamer can publish any video source to YouTube through its Publication Service. It does not establish that Restreamer itself turns a still image and audio into a looping 24/7 feed. Treat source creation, YouTube publishing, and saving an archive as separate parts of the setup.
What Restreamer can—and cannot—do here
datarhei describes Restreamer as able to send “any video source” to YouTube using its Publication Service. The documented publishing flow is to choose the Publication Service, enter a valid YouTube streaming ID, save, and monitor the connection and bitrate. Read the current YouTube publishing guide.
For a radio channel with a static image, the source sent to Restreamer must carry both the image as video and the radio as audio continuously. The current guide does not document a built-in control that composes a still image with an audio file and loops it indefinitely. You will need a suitable source-generation workflow, such as an external encoder or media process; the precise steps depend on that workflow and are not established by the current Restreamer guide.
Restreamer is self-hosted software. Its project documentation describes multiple audio/video inputs and outputs, FFmpeg video processing, and hardware and virtual devices, but those broad capabilities do not verify a one-click static-image radio feature or prove a particular computer or single-board computer can handle your encoding workload. Prepare YouTube before building the feed
YouTube requires the channel to be verified and live streaming enabled. YouTube says first-time live-stream enablement can take at least 24 hours after you request it, so complete that step before scheduling a launch. Check YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.
Use audio and other material you have the rights to broadcast. YouTube’s copyright and live-stream policies apply to radio streams just as they do to other broadcasts; a static image does not make copyrighted music permissible. Review the relevant YouTube copyright information and music policies before going live.
Set up the source and publish it
- Enable YouTube live streaming. Verify the channel and request live-stream access in YouTube Studio. Allow at least 24 hours for first-time activation, as YouTube advises.
- Build a continuous image-and-audio source. Use an encoder or media workflow that keeps the still image in the video stream while the radio audio continues. Confirm the workflow can repeat or sustain the audio as intended. Do not assume Restreamer creates this source for you.
- Check the source before connecting YouTube. Confirm that the image is visible, the audio is present, and the source remains active for the duration you intend. The exact encoder settings and source-generation commands depend on the chosen workflow; the current Restreamer documentation cited here does not specify them.
- Add YouTube as the publication destination. In Restreamer, select Publication Service, enter the YouTube streaming ID, and save. Follow the current interface and guide for your installed version rather than relying on older instructions.
- Verify the live connection and monitor health. Check Restreamer’s connection and bitrate indicators, then monitor YouTube’s stream health. YouTube recommends ensuring that your upload capacity can support the chosen encoding and checking real-world bandwidth; the needed throughput depends on your settings. See YouTube’s guidance on streaming across platforms and bandwidth.
Keep the whole chain available
A 24/7 broadcast depends on more than Restreamer’s publishing feature. The source-generation process, the host running Restreamer, power, and internet connectivity all need to remain available. YouTube advises checking bandwidth and stream health, but the cited documentation does not promise uninterrupted uptime for a self-hosted setup. Plan how you will notice a failed source or connection and restore it.

Do not assume guidance for the separate Restream relay service applies to self-hosted datarhei Restreamer. Restream says its own server may undergo maintenance and restart on runs beyond 24 hours; that is a caveat about Restream’s hosted service, not evidence of the same limit in Restreamer.
Live duration is not the same as an archive
A channel can remain live while the availability of a saved replay follows different rules. Restreamer’s current YouTube guide warns that interrupting Restreamer before ending the broadcast on YouTube may affect whether YouTube saves the stream in its DVR archive. When deliberately stopping a broadcast, end it on YouTube first and check YouTube’s current archive guidance rather than treating a saved replay as guaranteed.
Restream’s help center states that YouTube archives streams shorter than 12 hours, but that is a vendor help page’s description of YouTube behavior, not a guarantee for every current stream or account. Recheck YouTube’s current rules if a complete replay matters. Read Restream’s duration and archive help page.

Common problems and what to check
- YouTube does not accept the broadcast: Confirm that live streaming is enabled for the channel, the correct streaming ID was entered, and the stream is configured in YouTube Studio.
- The stream is connected but has no image or audio: Check the source-generation workflow first. Restreamer can publish a video source, but the documented guide does not say it generates a still-image-and-audio source.
- The feed drops or becomes unstable: Check the host, source process, power, internet connection, available upload bandwidth, and Restreamer and YouTube health indicators. YouTube recommends estimating bitrate needs and checking actual bandwidth rather than relying only on a nominal connection speed.
- The replay is missing or incomplete: Live availability and archive behavior are separate. Check the YouTube archive rules, and when ending a broadcast, end it on YouTube before interrupting Restreamer.
- An older tutorial does not match your interface: datarhei’s legacy YouTube guide is explicitly deprecated and covers Restreamer 0.6.x. Do not treat its interface steps or RTMP details as verified requirements for a current release. See the deprecated guide’s notice.
