Possibly—but it depends on your laptop and operating-system power settings, not on a documented PRISM Live Studio feature. PRISM supports streaming to YouTube, but its official materials do not promise that streaming continues when you close the lid, and neither PRISM nor YouTube guarantees uninterrupted 24/7 operation. Test the exact laptop, OS, and lid position before relying on it.
What closing the lid can—and cannot—tell you
PRISM Live Studio supports desktop streaming to YouTube through account connection or RTMP stream details. That establishes platform support; it does not establish that a laptop will stay awake or keep encoding after its lid closes. The outcome depends on the particular laptop and operating-system power behavior.

Apple 2026 MacBook Neo 13-inch Laptop with A18 Pro chip: Built for AI and Apple Intelligence, Liquid... | $689.00 | Buy on Amazon |
The official PRISM and YouTube materials reviewed do not provide a universal lid-closed setting or hardware recipe. Without your laptop model and OS, there is no reliable universal instruction to change. Check the current power guidance for your laptop and operating system, then test the exact configuration you intend to use.
Check that your computer can run PRISM
PRISM lists Windows 10/11 64-bit and Apple Silicon macOS 12.3 or later among its desktop requirements. These are compatibility requirements, not guarantees of performance or continuous operation. See PRISM Live Studio’s desktop page for its requirements and setup details.

PRISM warns that settings beyond a computer’s capabilities can cause performance problems. Its performance guidance explains that encoder choices affect CPU and GPU load; software encoding can increase CPU load. As PRISM puts it, “Since this function increases CPU and GPU load, we recommend limiting its usage.” Choose settings your computer and upload connection can sustain rather than assuming maximum resolution or frame rate is appropriate. See PRISM’s performance optimization guide.
Test the lid-closed setup before a long stream
- Confirm the basics. Verify that your PRISM desktop version supports your OS and that your YouTube channel is connected, or that you have the RTMP stream details needed to start.
- Choose sustainable stream settings. Use PRISM’s performance guidance and your computer’s available CPU/GPU capacity to choose an encoder and video settings. Avoid settings that cause dropped frames or overload during a test.
- Prepare for an extended run. Connect the laptop to reliable power and use a stable network connection. These reduce avoidable interruptions but do not guarantee uninterrupted streaming.
- Test with the lid in its intended position. Start a test stream and close the lid as you plan to during the real event. Confirm that the stream remains live and that both picture and sound continue. Do not infer the result from an open-lid test.
- Monitor the stream. YouTube recommends testing the setup and continuously monitoring audio and video quality. Arrange for someone or a monitoring plan to notice a failure and respond. YouTube also advises checking local archive growth and stopping the encoder after the event has stopped on YouTube; see its live-streaming tips.
No particular external monitor, dock, cooling stand, or other accessory is established as universally necessary. Suitability depends on the laptop and its operating conditions.
Will YouTube save a 24-hour livestream?
Do not rely on YouTube to archive a stream that runs for 24 hours. YouTube Help says: “If your live stream is less than 12 hours, YouTube can automatically archive it for you.” It also warns: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” This is an archive warning, not proof that YouTube stops a live stream at 12 hours. If you need a complete replay, make a local recording and confirm it is being saved. See YouTube Help’s archive live streams page.

Before leaving a stream running, confirm that you have the rights needed for everything in the video and its audio, including music, images, and other third-party material. A stream being pre-recorded or continuously looped does not itself establish permission to use its contents. Review YouTube’s applicable rules and your rights before going live.

If the goal is to keep uploaded videos live on YouTube without leaving a laptop running, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops uploaded videos; it does not stream from a camera.
- Nothing has to stay on at home: the stream runs from the cloud, not your laptop.
- Each slot streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; there are no quality tiers or re-encoding.
- Automatic recovery is included if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free, with no card required (one free day per account).
Monthly pricing: $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo pricing, or start your free day with StreamNeo.
