Yes. A Playwright page screenshot captures the page as rendered, so a visible, loaded cross-origin iframe should appear in the image. That is a visual capture, not proof that page JavaScript can read the iframe’s document. Playwright documents page screenshots and frame APIs separately; this conclusion follows from how a page-level screenshot captures rendered pixels.
How to capture the page and its visible iframe
Use page.screenshot() on the page. The iframe does not need to be selected or read through the DOM for its visible pixels to be part of the page image.

Capture the full scrollable page
By default, a screenshot captures the current viewport. Set fullPage: true to request an image covering the full scrollable page:

Seeing an iframe is different from automating it
A screenshot records rendered output. It does not establish that your test can inspect or manipulate the contents of a cross-origin frame. For frame-specific automation, use Playwright’s frame APIs, such as page.frame() or page.frameLocator().

For example, if the intended iframe can be identified unambiguously by its selector, a locator can target a button inside it:

await button.click();Replace iframe and the button name with selectors that identify the intended frame and control. If a page contains multiple iframes, use a selector specific enough to choose the right one.

Use screenshots for visual regression tests
When the goal is to detect visual changes rather than simply save an image, use Playwright Test’s screenshot assertion:

});The assertion waits for two consecutive screenshots to match before comparing against the reference. A frame that has not finished loading, or content that changes between captures, can still make a comparison unstable.

Keep the comparison environment consistent
Screenshot output can vary with the operating system, browser version, browser settings, hardware, power source, and headless mode. Use a consistent environment for creating and checking baselines. Where appropriate, stabilize dynamic page content and use screenshot stylesheet options deliberately; those styles can apply to inner frames too.

Troubleshoot missing or unexpected iframe pixels
- The iframe area is blank: Check that the frame has loaded and is visible when the screenshot is taken. A screenshot reflects the rendered state at capture time.
- The iframe appears, but its contents are not accessible to the test: Use a frame API for interactions rather than treating the screenshot as evidence of document access.
- The full-page image does not match expectations: Confirm whether you need the viewport screenshot or
fullPage: true, and check how screenshot styles affect the page and inner frames. - Visual assertions fail inconsistently: Keep browser and host conditions consistent, and account for changing page or frame content before comparing snapshots.
