No—not through YouTube’s standard OBS-to-YouTube workflow. A Premiere is a scheduled upload that YouTube starts at its scheduled time. OBS encoder auto-start applies to live streams, not to starting a Premiere. If you want an OBS-powered live pre-show, YouTube’s Live Redirect can hand viewers from that live stream to a Premiere, but it does not make OBS start the Premiere.

How a YouTube Premiere starts

A Premiere begins from the video scheduling workflow in YouTube Studio, not from OBS. Upload the finished video, choose to schedule it, select the Premiere option, and set its date and time. At that time YouTube starts the countdown; when it ends, viewers watch the uploaded video together. YouTube’s Premiere instructions describe the scheduling and viewing flow.

The Premiere has a public watch page where viewers can set reminders and participate in the event. Share that page ahead of time if you want people to arrive before the countdown.

Premiere, live stream, and Live Redirect compared

Workflow What viewers see What starts it
Scheduled Premiere A countdown followed by a prerecorded video watched together The time scheduled for the Premiere in YouTube Studio
YouTube live stream via encoder A real-time video and audio feed The encoder starts sending the configured stream when live-stream auto-start is enabled
Live Redirect Viewers are sent from a live stream to the Premiere The live stream’s redirect hands off viewers; the Premiere remains scheduled

YouTube documents encoder auto-start and auto-stop as controls for starting or stopping a live stream from an encoder. That setting does not document a way for OBS to trigger a scheduled Premiere. See YouTube’s live stream settings guidance and its explanation of live streams and Premieres.

  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Schedule a Premiere in YouTube Studio

  1. Upload the finished video in YouTube Studio.
  2. In the video’s visibility and scheduling flow, choose to schedule it and select the Premiere option.
  3. Choose the date and time. Set a countdown theme and length if you want them.
  4. Save the schedule and share the resulting public watch page so viewers can set reminders and join the event.

Check the video format before scheduling: YouTube’s Premiere help says Shorts are not supported, and neither are 360/VR180 videos or output greater than 1080p.

Use OBS for a live pre-show, then hand viewers to the Premiere

If you want to speak to viewers live before the prerecorded video, schedule the Premiere first, then configure a YouTube live stream and its Live Redirect to the Premiere. Start the live stream with OBS as a live event; the redirect is the audience handoff. Tell viewers in advance that the live portion will send them to the scheduled Premiere. The redirect does not turn the Premiere into an OBS-controlled stream.

When OBS auto-start is the right setting

Use encoder auto-start only when the event you want is a genuine live stream: a real-time feed sent by OBS. Confirm the stream configuration and auto-start setting in YouTube Studio, then start sending the stream from OBS. YouTube’s documentation describes this setting for live streams, not scheduled video Premieres.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is a YouTube channel that stays live with uploaded videos rather than a scheduled Premiere, StreamNeo runs a looping stream from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; each slot streams what you uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price, and it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month.

Limitations and troubleshooting

  • OBS starts sending, but no Premiere begins: OBS is sending an encoder stream. Confirm whether you scheduled a Premiere or created a live stream; encoder auto-start concerns the latter.
  • The Premiere countdown does not appear when expected: Check the scheduled date and time and the public watch page in YouTube Studio. The Premiere follows its schedule rather than OBS’s connection state.
  • Viewers remain on the live pre-show: Check that Live Redirect is configured on the live stream and points to the already-created Premiere. The redirect sends viewers; it does not start the scheduled video event.
  • The video cannot be set as a Premiere: Verify that it is not a Short, 360/VR180, or greater than 1080p, formats YouTube’s Premiere help says are unsupported.

What third-party automation can and cannot be concluded

YouTube’s documented native workflows treat Premiere scheduling and encoder-driven live streaming as separate processes. That does not establish whether a particular third-party OBS plugin, custom script, or external API integration can trigger Premiere-related actions; the official workflow documentation does not answer that broader question.
