Yes. Intel documents hardware AV1 and H.264 encoding for Arc A-Series and B-Series graphics cards, and YouTube Live accepts both codecs at up to 60 fps. That makes an Arc GPU a viable hardware-encoding path for a 4K60 YouTube stream—but it does not guarantee that every Arc model, PC, application, or looping setup will sustain one reliably.
What “can encode 4K60” does—and does not—mean
Encoding compatibility is only one part of a live stream. The GPU must support the selected codec, the streaming application must expose that hardware encoder, the rest of the system must keep up, and the internet connection must sustain the outgoing bitrate. A prerecorded loop also needs a workflow that keeps feeding video and audio to the encoder.
Intel’s codec support information covers Arc A-Series and B-Series among its listed Arc product families, but supported formats can vary by family and format. Check the specifications for your exact card and confirm that your operating system and streaming application offer the encoder you intend to use. Intel’s Arc GPU codec support article was last reviewed April 7, 2026.
Choose a YouTube Live codec and bitrate
YouTube’s encoder guide gives these recommendations for 3840 × 2160 (4K) at 60 fps. The minimum figures are not the recommended targets; use the recommended bitrate if your encoder and connection can sustain it.

| Codec | YouTube-recommended bitrate at 4K60 | YouTube-listed minimum |
|---|---|---|
| AV1 | 35 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| H.264 (AVC) | 50 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| H.265 (HEVC) | 35 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s published encoder settings, not a guarantee of the quality or stability your particular upload connection will deliver. Allow headroom beyond the video bitrate for audio and network variation, and test the stream from the same connection and with the same content you plan to loop. YouTube’s live encoder settings guide was accessed October 3, 2026; the page does not show a publication date.
Set the encoder for a 4K60 stream
- Set output resolution and frame rate: choose 3840 × 2160 and 60 fps in the streaming application. Confirm the source video is suitable for that output; upscaling a lower-resolution recording does not add detail.
- Select a supported hardware encoder: choose AV1 or H.264 if your exact Arc card and software expose it. YouTube also lists HEVC at 4K60, but verify its availability in your Arc model and application rather than assuming every combination supports it.
- Set rate control to CBR: YouTube recommends constant bitrate encoding for live ingest. Set the video bitrate to the codec-specific recommended value in the table, provided your connection can sustain it.
- Set keyframes to two seconds: YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says it should not exceed four seconds.
- Use the recommended protocol: YouTube lists RTMP/RTMPS for live streaming. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule the live stream and enter its stream key in your encoder; treat the key like a password and do not publish it with the loop video or stream details.
- Check color and HDR settings: for SDR, YouTube recommends Rec. 709 and 8-bit video. Its guide lists H.265 for HDR and says AV1 is not supported for HDR. At 3840 × 2160 and above, YouTube’s AV1 guidance calls for at least two tile columns.
- Test and monitor: send a test using representative motion and audio, then check YouTube’s stream health before relying on a long-running loop. YouTube says it detects the encoder settings in use; detection does not replace checking for dropped frames, connection problems, or audio issues.
YouTube says 4K streams use normal latency; low-latency optimization is unavailable at that resolution. That is relevant if you expect viewers to interact with the stream in near real time.

Can one Arc card encode several streams at once?
Intel Support says, “Generally, Intel Arc can support 4K@60fps with four AV1 encoder instances working simultaneously.” This is a qualified general statement about concurrent AV1 encoding, not a benchmark of one YouTube Live loop or a promise for every Arc card. Intel notes that the practical limit depends on the overall hardware configuration and software, and that resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and memory configuration affect the number of instances. The article was last reviewed December 23, 2024: Intel’s simultaneous AV1 encode guidance.
What to check if the stream will not hold 4K60
- The hardware encoder is missing: verify the exact Arc model’s codec support, update or check the relevant graphics and application software, and confirm that the application is set to use the Arc hardware encoder rather than a different encoder path.
- YouTube reports poor stream health or frames are dropped: check the sustained upload capacity and stability of the connection, verify CBR and the selected bitrate, and run a representative test. If the connection cannot sustain the recommended bitrate, reduce the output bitrate or resolution rather than assuming the card is the only bottleneck.
- The stream is 4K but not 60 fps: check the output frame-rate setting, source frame rate, encoder load, and whether the system can sustain the selected resolution and frame rate together.
- The stream starts but the loop stops: check whether the encoder application is configured to repeat the recording and whether the source file remains available. A working hardware encoder alone does not provide a looping workflow.
- Viewers report audio or color problems: test the complete video and audio path, confirm the intended SDR or HDR mode, and use YouTube’s recommended SDR color settings where applicable.
Looping a prerecorded video and channel rules
The encoder settings determine how video reaches YouTube; they do not establish that a particular prerecorded program is appropriate for a channel. Before broadcasting a repeated recording, make sure you have the rights to its video, music, and other included material, and review YouTube’s current policies for live streams and monetization. Technical compatibility should not be treated as a policy approval.
