Yes. YouTube supports channel memberships in India and lets eligible creators restrict a live stream to paying members. The stream is a membership perk: members’ recurring payments are the revenue source, not a separate automatic payment for each exclusive broadcast. YouTube says creators receive 70% of membership revenue after applicable taxes and fees are deducted.
Who can use channel memberships in India?
India is on YouTube’s list of locations where channel memberships are available. That does not mean every Indian channel qualifies. YouTube’s published feature thresholds are 500 subscribers, three public uploads within the last 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours on long-form videos in the past 365 days or 3 million qualified public Shorts views in the past 90 days. Memberships also require the creator to be at least 18, live in an eligible location, accept the Commerce Product Module or applicable legacy addendum, and meet channel-policy conditions. Channels set as Made for Kids and some music channels may be ineligible. YouTube reviews channels, so meeting the numerical thresholds does not guarantee approval. Check the current status in YouTube Studio.
Turn on memberships
- In YouTube Studio, open Earn and select the Memberships tab if it is available.
- Follow the setup steps and accept the Commerce Product Module, unless your account is covered by the earlier Commerce Product Addendum.
- Wait for the channel review. YouTube says activation review may take up to two days after YPP acceptance; the feature may not appear immediately. Details are in YouTube’s channel memberships setup guide.
Live streaming itself has separate requirements: the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. See YouTube’s live-streaming access guidance.

How membership revenue works
YouTube states that creators receive 70% of membership revenue after applicable taxes and fees are deducted, and that YouTube currently covers transaction costs, including credit-card fees. The 70% is not a guarantee that 70% of the advertised membership price will be the creator’s take-home amount. Refunds, applicable taxes, and any additional MCN share can affect what the creator receives; creators and MCNs remain responsible for applicable tax compliance. YouTube does not publish one universal rupee payout per Indian member or per members-only stream. Membership prices and a creator’s final payout depend on the account and relevant deductions. For your own figures, review membership revenue in YouTube Studio and your applicable account and payment records.

Set up a members-only live stream
Restrict viewing from the start
- On desktop, open YouTube Studio and select Create > Go live.
- Create the broadcast, then set its visibility to Members only.
- Choose whether it is available to all paid members or only members at a selected level and above.
- Schedule the stream or go live. YouTube’s members-only live-stream guidance explains the workflow.
Members at the required level can watch. Non-members may see the stream’s thumbnail and metadata, but not the exclusive broadcast. YouTube notifies eligible members.
Start publicly, then switch to members-only
You can also begin a broadcast publicly and schedule a transition to members-only in Live Control Room. This can give non-members a public preview before the exclusive portion. Members at the selected level continue into that portion; non-members are notified and prompted to join. YouTube archives the public and members-only segments as distinct videos, with performance data available separately in YouTube Analytics. The transition feature is currently unavailable for vertical live streams, so check the current Live Control Room options when planning your format. See YouTube’s live-stream transition guidance.

Choose the right access setting

These settings do not create different payout rates. Both depend on channel memberships and the recurring membership payments. YouTube describes the chat setting in its members-only chat guidance.
Keep the stream compliant
Membership status does not exempt a broadcast from YouTube’s rules. Before using music, video clips, or other material you did not create or license, confirm that you have the rights to use it in a live broadcast. A members-only audience does not by itself make copyrighted material permissible. Follow YouTube’s channel monetization and community policies, and make sure the channel’s membership perks and content meet its eligibility rules.

For the related income streams, YouTube lists live-stream ads, memberships, Shopping, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and YouTube Premium revenue as separate monetization features, each with its own requirements and settings. A members-only broadcast should not be treated as a separate per-stream payment or as automatic eligibility for those other features.
