Yes—an Indian broadband connection can handle a stable 24/7 YouTube livestream if its upload speed stays comfortably above the stream’s outgoing bitrate, the connection remains stable, and the plan’s data policy does not throttle it below what the stream needs. A plan’s advertised download speed or the word “unlimited” cannot answer that for your particular address. Test the actual connection, encoder and plan before relying on it continuously.
What determines whether your connection can keep streaming?
For a continuous livestream, the key measure is sustained upload performance—not the download speed displayed most prominently in a broadband plan. Your encoder sends video and audio to YouTube over the upstream connection. If that upload rate repeatedly falls to or below the encoder’s outgoing bitrate, ordinary fluctuations or other household traffic can interrupt the stream.
TRAI says it does not prescribe a minimum broadband download or upload speed, and says providers should indicate typical speeds in tariff offerings. A national pass/fail speed therefore cannot certify a connection at your premises. Local service availability and network behavior vary, so use observed performance from the intended streaming location. See TRAI’s broadband FAQ.

How much upload speed does YouTube streaming need?
YouTube’s listed H.264 recommendations give the following video bitrates. These are recommended video settings, not a guarantee of the total connection capacity you need: allow operating headroom and account for other network use.

| Resolution and frame rate | YouTube recommended H.264 video bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 9 Mbps |
Use the encoder’s actual outgoing bitrate as the comparison point, then check whether upload performance stays above it under representative conditions. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate and testing before starting a live stream; its guidance also recommends monitoring stream health. Consult YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance for the current recommendations and setup details.
Will an “unlimited” plan keep a 24/7 stream running?
Not necessarily. Check the plan’s fair-use policy (FUP), the allowance before any threshold, and the speed after that threshold. TRAI says providers should clearly specify the fair-use limit and the speed after it. Also read the provider’s terms for continuous or commercial use, especially if the channel is monetized.

- DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
- AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
- CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
- EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
- OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.
For example, BharatNet’s official FTTH page lists plans that provide full speed up to a data allowance and a lower speed afterward; one listed example is 25 Mbps up to 700 GB, then up to 2 Mbps. This illustrates how a tariff can work; it is not a national policy or a recommendation. Check the current BharatNet FTTH plan page and the tariff available at your address.
Jio’s FAQ describes its cited home plans as offering unlimited high-speed data, but says service may be discontinued for misuse, fraudulent, unauthorised or commercial use. That is a reason to read the current terms for the specific plan rather than assume that “unlimited” permits every continuous use. See Jio’s data-limit FAQ.

- Next-Gen Gigabit Wi-Fi 6 Speeds: 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz bands ensure smoother streaming and faster downloads; support VPN server and VPN client¹
- A More Responsive Experience: Enjoy smooth gaming, video streaming, and live feeds simultaneously. OFDMA makes your Wi-Fi stronger by allowing multiple clients to share one band at the same time, cutting latency and jitter.²
- Expanded Wi-Fi Coverage: 4 high-gain external antennas and Beamforming technology combine to extend strong, reliable, Wi-Fi throughout your home.
- Improved Battery Life: Target Wake Time helps your devices to communicate efficiently while consuming less power.
- Improved Cooling Design: No heat ups, no throttles. A larger heat sink and redefined case design cools the WiFi 6 system and enables your network to stay at top speeds in more versatile environments.
How much data does a continuous stream use?
At a constant bitrate, a useful arithmetic estimate is about 10.8 GB per day for each sustained 1 Mbps, before protocol overhead. At 5 Mbps, that works out to about 54 GB per day before overhead. These are calculated estimates, not published measurements. Multiply by the number of hours you plan to stream and compare the result with the plan’s allowance and any post-FUP speed.
How to test your broadband before depending on it
- Check the plan terms. Find the stated upload speed, FUP threshold, speed after the threshold, and any restrictions on continuous or commercial use. Confirm the exact plan and availability for your premises.
- Set the intended stream quality. Choose the resolution and frame rate you actually plan to use, then configure the encoder in line with YouTube’s current recommended bitrate guidance. Do not treat the recommended video bitrate as your total connection requirement.
- Test from the intended setup. Run a speed test from the streaming computer and location. YouTube specifically recommends testing upload bitrate. A speed-test result is a snapshot, so it cannot establish that upload performance will remain steady around the clock.
- Run a representative trial stream. Use the intended encoder settings, representative video motion and audio, and the same network conditions you expect during normal streaming. Monitor YouTube’s stream-health messages and watch for bitrate drops or interruptions.
- Include ordinary network use. Test while other expected household or office devices are using the connection. If upload performance approaches the encoder’s outgoing bitrate, reduce competing traffic or stream at a lower setting and test again.
- Consider a wired local connection. Connecting the streaming computer to the router with Ethernet is a sensible way to reduce dependence on local Wi-Fi. It will not fix ISP-side congestion, an outage or a routing problem.
Where supported by your encoder and setup, YouTube recommends RTMPS, an encrypted extension of RTMP. Check YouTube’s encoder guidance for protocol and configuration details.

- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
What to compare if you are choosing a connection or plan
- Measured sustained upload: compare the observed rate and consistency with your encoder’s outgoing bitrate, rather than relying on a download headline.
- Intended stream settings: compare the resolution, frame rate and recommended video bitrate you will use.
- Data policy: check the FUP allowance and post-threshold speed against the stream’s estimated continuous data use.
- Terms of service: confirm that your intended continuous or commercial use is permitted by the provider’s current terms.
- Trial stream behavior: check YouTube stream health in the actual location and setup before committing to a round-the-clock schedule.
Common problems and what to try
- Stream health reports an unstable connection: compare the actual outgoing bitrate with upload performance during the problem, reduce other upload traffic, and test at a lower resolution or frame rate. Run another representative trial.
- The stream degrades after a data threshold: check the FUP and post-threshold rate. If the reduced rate cannot sustain the chosen bitrate with headroom, ask the provider about a suitable plan or lower the stream settings.
- A speed test looks fine but the stream still drops: a single test does not establish sustained stability. Monitor stream health during a longer trial and consider whether the cause is local Wi-Fi, household upload use, ISP congestion, an outage or routing.
- A wired connection does not fix interruptions: Ethernet only addresses dependence on the local Wi-Fi link. Contact the provider if testing points to an ISP-side fault; changing the in-home link cannot repair upstream service problems.
- The provider’s “unlimited” wording is unclear: ask for the exact fair-use threshold, speed after the threshold and terms for continuous or commercial streaming before relying on the plan.
