Yes, Gyre can stream a playlist of prerecorded videos to YouTube as a live broadcast—but that does not mean every mix of file formats and settings will work unchanged. You must upload the source files to Gyre, check them with its file report, and optimize any files that do not meet its requirements. Gyre also warns that mixing resolutions or bitrates may cause playback problems during a continuous stream.

What “different video formats” means in practice

A file’s format can refer to its container (such as MP4), video codec, audio codec, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, or audio settings. A playlist may contain files that differ in one or several of these properties. The available Gyre documentation does not provide an exhaustive, current list of accepted input containers and codecs, so it cannot establish that any particular mix of extensions is guaranteed to work.

Instead, Gyre’s documented workflow is to upload the files and use its report to check parameters including resolution, FPS, and audio settings. If a file does not meet the applicable requirements, Gyre says to optimize it before adding it to a stream. In other words, you do not necessarily have to convert every file in advance, but you should expect to prepare any file the check flags.

How to prepare and stream a playlist with Gyre

  1. Gather the source video files. Gyre requires the video files to be uploaded to Gyre storage to create the stream. This applies even if a video was previously uploaded to your YouTube channel or is part of an existing YouTube playlist; linking to that YouTube playlist is not described as a substitute for uploading the files.
  2. Upload the files to Gyre. Use the uploaded copies as the playlist sources. A YouTube URL alone is not the documented input for this workflow.
  3. Check each file’s report. Review the reported parameters, including resolution, FPS, and audio settings. Treat any file that Gyre identifies as not meeting requirements as needing optimization before it joins the stream.
  4. Make the playlist more consistent where practical. Gyre warns that mixing resolutions or bitrates may increase playback problems in a continuous broadcast. This is vendor guidance, not a published independent performance test. If files differ substantially, consider optimizing them to consistent stream-relevant settings rather than assuming the playlist will transition cleanly.
  5. Build the playlist and start the YouTube broadcast. Once the files are uploaded and meet Gyre’s checks, arrange them in the desired order and configure the YouTube stream through Gyre’s workflow. Gyre says the playlist starts again from the beginning after its final file.

Which settings should you check?

Gyre’s help article gives HD and full-HD preparation guidance of 1280×720 or 1920×1080 resolution, H.264 video, 3072–6144 kbps video bitrate, 128 kbps audio, and 30 fps. These are dated vendor recommendations, not a complete current compatibility matrix or a guarantee that every file with those settings will work.

The same article includes an ambiguously labelled “Frame rates 44.1 kHz” line. Because 44.1 kHz is an audio sampling-rate unit rather than a frame-rate unit, do not treat that line as a frame-rate requirement. Use Gyre’s file report and current in-product requirements for the files you are preparing.

Do not confuse source-file checks with YouTube ingest requirements

YouTube’s published HLS live-ingest requirements describe what an encoder sends to YouTube over that protocol: muxed M2TS, H.264 or HEVC, AAC, closed GOP, and up to 60 fps. Those are requirements for an ingest protocol, not a list of source-file extensions Gyre accepts. A source video’s extension alone therefore does not establish whether Gyre can use it.

What to expect from a cloud playlist stream

Gyre is a cloud service that sends prerecorded video as a YouTube live stream, so you do not need to keep a dedicated streaming PC or camera running for the cloud broadcast. YouTube Help lists Gyre as a verified encoder option and explains that an encoder converts video into a digital format to stream on YouTube.

For conversion timing, Gyre’s 2026 automation guide reports that a one-hour video converts in 12–15 minutes on average. That is a vendor-reported average, not an independent benchmark or a guaranteed completion time; an individual file and service conditions can affect the result.

When to choose another way to keep YouTube live

If you want a 24/7 stream of uploaded recordings rather than a camera feed, the key practical choice is whether to manage source preparation and streaming locally or use a cloud service. A local encoder requires a computer and connection to keep operating; Gyre and StreamNeo are cloud options for prerecorded video, but their file-handling workflows should not be assumed to be identical.

StreamNeo: an alternative for always-on YouTube playback

StreamNeo keeps a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the videos from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. StreamNeo’s stated offering is one flat price per slot for any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, with no re-encode or quality tiers, plus automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free without a card. See StreamNeo for service details.

StreamNeo’s stated monthly price is $9.99 per month. It streams to YouTube only. The information available here does not establish that StreamNeo accepts every source format without preparation, so check its upload workflow for your files rather than treating the 4K 60fps streaming limit as a source-format guarantee.

Troubleshooting a mixed playlist

  • A file is flagged by Gyre’s report: Optimize that file to meet the requirements shown in the report before adding it to the stream.
  • Playback becomes unreliable when the playlist changes files: Check whether resolution or bitrate differs across the files. Gyre specifically warns that mixing either may increase playback problems; making those properties more consistent is a sensible preparation step.
  • You are trying to use a video already on YouTube: Upload the source file to Gyre storage. The cited Gyre guidance says existing YouTube content and playlists still require the video files to be uploaded.
  • You are using YouTube’s HLS requirements to choose source extensions: Those requirements apply to the HLS ingest sent to YouTube, not Gyre’s source-file acceptance list. Check the source files in Gyre instead.
  • The playlist ends: Gyre says it restarts from the beginning after the final file. If that is not the sequence you want, revise the playlist order or its contents.

Copyright and YouTube channel rules still apply

Sending prerecorded video as a live broadcast does not remove the need to have rights to the video and audio or to comply with YouTube’s rules. Review the rights for every item in a playlist—including music, clips, and other third-party material—before streaming. A playlist can run continuously, but that alone does not establish that its content is permitted or that the channel will meet YouTube’s monetization policies.
