Not according to the ElevenLabs documentation reviewed. Its hosted Model Context Protocol (MCP) server is documented for managing ElevenAgents, not ElevenReader libraries, imports, or playback. That leaves ElevenReader control through Claude Desktop or Cursor unverified—not proven impossible. You can use ElevenReader’s documented app and web tools to add content, or connect ElevenLabs’ hosted MCP server to Claude Desktop for the separate ElevenAgents workflow.

What ElevenLabs MCP can manage

ElevenLabs describes its hosted MCP server as a remote service that exposes agent-management tools to AI assistants. The documented target is ElevenAgents, not ElevenReader. The hosted MCP guide does not establish tools for listing an ElevenReader library, importing a book or article, or controlling playback. See the ElevenLabs hosted MCP documentation and its overview of external assistants.

ElevenReader is a separate reading and text-to-audio product, available on iPhone, iPad, Android, and the web. The fact that both products are from ElevenLabs does not mean that an MCP connection for one controls the other.

Can Claude Desktop or Cursor control ElevenReader?

The available official documentation does not confirm that Claude Desktop or Cursor can use MCP to manage ElevenReader content or playback. It also does not establish that such an integration is impossible. Treat it as unverified, and do not assume that adding the ElevenLabs MCP server will expose your Reader library.

ElevenLabs does name Claude and Cursor among external assistants for working with ElevenAgents. That is evidence of support for the agent-management workflow, not Reader control. The reviewed documentation provides a concrete hosted setup for Claude Desktop, but does not substantiate a current, step-by-step Cursor configuration. Avoid copying a configuration snippet from an unverified source.

How to connect Claude Desktop to ElevenLabs MCP for ElevenAgents

This setup is for ElevenAgents—not ElevenReader. ElevenLabs documents a hosted endpoint at https://api.elevenlabs.io/v1/mcp and a Claude Desktop connection through the connector directory. The hosted flow uses OAuth, so the documented setup requires neither installing a local MCP server nor copying an API key into Claude.

  1. In Claude Desktop, open Settings > Connectors.
  2. Search the connector directory for ElevenLabs, then choose the connection option.
  3. Complete the ElevenLabs OAuth sign-in and authorize the workspace access you want to grant.
  4. Use the available MCP tools for ElevenAgents, not as controls for an ElevenReader library or player.

The global endpoint is not necessarily the right choice for every account: ElevenLabs documents distinct server URLs for region-specific data-residency environments. If your workspace is in an isolated environment, use the URL documented for that region rather than assuming the global endpoint applies.

Review changes before they go live

ElevenLabs says agent updates made through MCP can publish a new version on the target branch, or on main if no branch is specified. If you need review before publication, require confirmation for update or merge actions and work on a branch or draft where available. This is a change-control precaution for agent management; it does not apply to Reader imports.

How to add content to ElevenReader instead

For reading and listening, use ElevenReader’s documented app or web import options. Its product information lists typing or pasting text, scanning text, pasting a webpage link, and uploading EPUB, PDF, TXT, HTML, or DOCX files. It also lists material such as Google Docs, Kindle eBooks, articles, and webpages. These are documented Reader input methods, not confirmed MCP tools.

ElevenReader can be used in major browsers, according to the ElevenLabs desktop and web help page. For available platforms and content options, consult the ElevenReader product page and desktop and web help.

Why older local MCP setup instructions may be outdated

In a changelog entry dated August 22, 2026, ElevenLabs said its original local MCP server was deprecated in favor of the hosted server and that the old repositories were archived and would no longer receive updates. Start with the hosted documentation rather than relying on those archived local-server instructions: ElevenLabs changelog, August 22, 2026.
