Castr can loop pre-recorded video to YouTube continuously, but its published settings for recorded-video streams recommend 1080p and do not confirm that the scheduler outputs 4K (3840×2160). You can set up a continuous loop; before relying on it as a 4K stream, ask Castr whether that specific workflow preserves or downscales 2160p.
What Castr documents—and what it does not
Castr documents a pre-recorded streaming workflow that accepts uploaded MP4 files, sends them to connected platforms, and can run in an Infinite Loop mode 24/7. YouTube is a supported destination, connected either through Castr’s YouTube API flow or by entering YouTube’s streaming server and key.
The unresolved point is output resolution. Castr’s recorded-video guide recommends Full HD (1920×1080), not 4K. That recommendation does not prove the scheduler cannot accept or send a 4K source, but Castr’s published information does not establish that it will deliver 3840×2160. YouTube’s ability to ingest 4K live video is separate and cannot confirm what Castr’s scheduler sends.
How to set up a continuous pre-recorded stream
- Check your Castr plan and account limits. Castr says the pre-recorded feature is available across its plans, while file size and file-count limits depend on the subscription. Confirm that your plan and account support the files and continuous-loop mode you intend to use.
- Prepare MP4 video files. The current setup guide describes uploading .mp4 files. Castr’s published recorded-video recommendations are constant bitrate (CBR), a 2-second keyframe interval, 1920×1080 resolution, 30 FPS, and 4,000 Kbps. These are Castr’s recommendations, not a guarantee of 4K output; Castr warns that video outside its suggested configuration may cause a stream to stop.
- Upload and organize the playlist. Add one or more videos, reorder them as needed, and toggle individual items on or off. Check the full playlist before starting so only the intended videos will play.
- Choose the schedule. Select Infinite Loop to keep the uploaded content running continuously, or Date & Time to schedule a future start. Confirm in your account that the mode you need is available.
- Connect YouTube. Use Castr’s API connection to YouTube Events, or connect manually with YouTube’s streaming server and stream key. With manual key setup, edit stream descriptions in YouTube’s dashboard.
- Start with a test and check stream health. Verify that the stream starts, playlist playback behaves as expected, and YouTube reports a healthy incoming feed. If 4K is essential, verify the actual output resolution with Castr rather than inferring it from the source file or YouTube’s ingest support.
Loop or Date & Time?
| Mode | What it does | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Infinite Loop | Repeats the uploaded video or playlist continuously on added platforms, 24/7. | An always-on channel built around recurring recorded content. |
| Date & Time | Sets a future start for the scheduled stream. | A one-time or specifically timed broadcast rather than an uninterrupted loop. |
Availability of a mode and media limits may depend on the Castr plan and account. Check the current plan details before building a channel around continuous playback.

Does YouTube support 4K live video?
YouTube’s live encoder guidance includes 4K/2160p input and says it transcodes incoming live streams into formats for different viewers. For H.264 at 2160p and 60 FPS, YouTube recommends 35 Mbps; bitrate guidance varies by codec and frame rate, so use YouTube’s current table for your planned settings. YouTube says 4K/2160p is optimized for normal latency; low latency is not available for that resolution.
This describes YouTube’s ingest guidance, not Castr’s pre-recorded scheduler. Even if your source file is 4K and YouTube accepts 4K live input, you still need Castr to confirm that this workflow sends 2160p rather than downscaling it.

Common problems and checks
- The stream stops during playback: Castr warns that files not formatted to its suggested configuration may cause a broadcast to stop. Check that the file is MP4 and compare its encoding settings with Castr’s recorded-video recommendations.
- YouTube does not receive the stream: Recheck the selected YouTube connection method and, for manual setup, confirm that the streaming server and key are correct in the relevant fields.
- The stream runs, but its resolution is unclear: Do not assume the uploaded file’s resolution is the outgoing resolution. Check YouTube’s stream health information and ask Castr specifically whether its pre-recorded scheduler outputs 3840×2160.
- The desired loop or files are unavailable: Confirm current plan limits for media size and file count, and verify that Infinite Loop is enabled for your account.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does Castr’s 1080p recommendation prove that 4K streaming is impossible?
No. It establishes the published recommendation, not whether the scheduler can output 2160p. Castr’s answer for that specific workflow is needed.
Can I use a YouTube stream key with Castr?
Yes. Castr documents manual connection with YouTube’s streaming server and key, as well as an API connection.
