Possibly, but “old gaming PC” alone cannot tell you. The PC must decode and feed the playlist at 3840×2160 and 60 fps, encode it in real time, and sustain the upload bitrate without falling behind. Test the exact computer, software, playlist and internet connection you plan to use; if any part struggles, 1440p60 or 1080p60 may be the more reliable choice.
What 4K60 YouTube Live requires
Streaming a playlist is more than playing a 4K video. The computer has to decode each source, keep the playlist moving, encode the output at 60 frames per second and send it continuously to YouTube. A PC that plays 4K smoothly may still struggle to encode it live. The result can be dropped frames, encoder overload or an unstable stream.
YouTube’s current encoder guidance lists 4K/2160p at 60 fps at 10–40 Mbps for AV1 or H.265/HEVC, and recommends 35 Mbps for H.264. These are encoder settings, not a guarantee that an older PC can encode at that rate or that a particular Indian internet connection can sustain it. YouTube supports H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 over RTMP/RTMPS, up to 60 fps; it recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval. YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance gives the current figures.
Recommended Free Tools
For a normal-latency 4K stream, YouTube’s guidance calls for the normal latency option rather than low latency. Do not select AV1 or H.265 merely because YouTube accepts them: the PC and streaming software must expose an encoder that can produce the chosen codec in real time.

Check whether your PC can keep up
Identify the actual encoder and codec
Record the PC’s CPU and GPU models, operating system, streaming software and version, then check which hardware and software encoders the application offers. A hardware encoder uses a specialized part of the GPU to offload encoding work from the CPU, but its availability and codec support depend on the specific hardware. OBS’s hardware-encoding guide explains the distinction and recommends hardware encoding for performance. Its best-results guidance mentions Turing-generation NVENC; that is a recommendation, not a universal minimum specification for every 4K60 stream.
Confirm that the selected encoder supports your intended codec and output resolution. If the application offers only an encoder that cannot sustain 4K60, changing YouTube’s bitrate setting will not fix the processing limit. Avoid buying a new GPU before identifying what the current hardware can actually encode.

Check playlist behavior in your software
Confirm that the streaming application can advance through or loop the playlist the way you intend. YouTube’s encoder setup supports encoder-based streams and recommends previewing and monitoring the event, but its general setup guidance does not establish how every third-party app handles playlists. Test the actual playlist—including its transitions and audio—rather than assuming that a video player or encoder will loop it correctly.

Measure upload capacity at the stream location
Run upload tests from the broadcasting PC on the network and at the location where it will stream. A single peak result, an advertised plan speed or a download-speed figure does not prove that the connection can carry a continuous live upload. YouTube notes that outbound bandwidth may differ from inbound bandwidth and advises leaving headroom: its guidance describes total stream load as the primary stream plus any backup stream plus headroom, and recommends 20% room. - Compare sustained upload capacity with the chosen stream bitrate, while retaining the recommended headroom.
- Include other simultaneous streams or backup feeds in the total load.
- Test at likely broadcast times, when household use or local congestion may differ.
- If Wi-Fi appears to be the weak link and a wired connection is practical, test over Ethernet. A cable cannot increase the upload capacity supplied by the ISP.
There is no nationwide Indian upload-speed figure that settles this question for every creator. The relevant conditions are the specific ISP and plan, routing, Wi-Fi or Ethernet setup, household sharing and time-of-day congestion at the stream location. YouTube’s published bitrate settings describe the ingest configuration; they are not a measurement of what an individual Indian connection can sustain.
Configure and test the stream before relying on it
- Choose a supported output. Start with 3840×2160 at 60 fps only if the encoder exposes a compatible codec and you have reason to expect it can keep up.
- Set the encoder. Use a YouTube-supported codec, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval. For 4K60, use YouTube’s codec-specific guidance: 10–40 Mbps for AV1/H.265 or its recommended 35 Mbps for H.264. Select normal latency for 4K.
- Connect the encoder to YouTube. Set up an encoder-based live stream in YouTube and enter its stream key in the streaming software. Keep the key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your stream.
- Preview and run a representative test. Use the same playlist, motion, audio and expected duration. Check the YouTube preview and the encoder’s status for dropped frames, encoder overload, network instability and playlist interruptions. YouTube’s encoder setup guide covers creating and previewing an encoder-based stream.
- Adjust based on the end-to-end result. If the stream is not stable, lower the output resolution or frame rate, reduce bitrate in line with YouTube’s settings for the new mode, or address the observed encoder or connection bottleneck. Repeat the test after each change.
Do not treat a brief preview as proof that a long-running playlist will remain stable. Test for a representative duration and watch for interruptions over time before relying on the setup.

When to choose 1440p60 or 1080p60
If the PC cannot encode 4K60 reliably or the connection lacks sustained upload headroom, a lower output is a sensible fallback—not a failed setup. YouTube publishes lower bitrate settings for 1440p60 and 1080p60 as well. Pick the highest mode that remains stable in a realistic test, rather than choosing 4K simply because YouTube accepts it. Check the same encoder, network and playlist symptoms at the lower setting before settling on it.

| What you see | Likely area to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Encoder overload or frames not keeping up | The PC’s encoder, codec support or competing workload | Confirm the selected hardware encoder and supported codec; close unnecessary workloads and test again. If it still falls behind, try 1440p60 or 1080p60. |
| Dropped frames or unstable connection | Insufficient or variable outbound upload, congestion, Wi-Fi or competing network use | Test upload at the stream location and likely broadcast time, preserve headroom, reduce competing traffic, and compare a wired connection if practical. Lower the bitrate or output mode if the connection remains unstable. |
| Stream starts but the playlist does not advance or loop | Playlist configuration or application behavior | Verify the software’s playlist controls and test transitions and looping with the exact playlist before the live event. |
| Video looks poor despite selecting 4K | The output path may not be producing the chosen resolution or the source itself may be lower quality | Check the actual output resolution and source files in the test. A 4K setting cannot add detail that is absent from the source. |
