Possibly, but the available evidence does not establish that an iPhone Live Photo bypasses most liveness SDKs—or verify the fix described in the original headline. The key question is how the media reaches the verification flow: an image or video shown to a camera is a presentation attack; media supplied directly to the software path without using the camera is an injection attack. Testing one does not, by itself, establish resistance to the other.
What the iPhone Live Photo claim does—and does not—establish
The accessible DEV Community listing for the Binimise Labs article identifies its title and metadata, but does not provide the technical account. That means the specific Live Photo input, the SDKs and versions involved, the attack path, and the change described as the fix cannot be verified from the available material.

Consequently, the headline’s claim about “most” SDKs should be treated as the publisher’s claim, not as an independently established prevalence finding. Nor is there enough information to explain what the fix changed or whether it was independently tested. A Live Photo label alone does not reveal whether the media was displayed to a camera or inserted into the app’s capture pipeline.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhy the attack path matters
Presentation attacks
A presentation attack reaches the device’s camera: for example, an attacker presents a representation of a face to the camera. A PAD test that covers specified presentations can provide evidence about those cases under its test conditions. It does not automatically show how the app behaves when the camera is bypassed.

- Vibrant 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display with OLED technology. Action mode for smooth, steady, handheld videos.
Injection attacks
An injection attack supplies images or video to the verification software path without capturing them through the camera. This is a different point of attack. A claim that an SDK passed presentation-attack testing is not, on its own, evidence that it detects injected media. Ask for injection-specific coverage and results rather than inferring them from a general “liveness” or PAD claim.
How to evaluate an SDK’s evidence
Ask the provider to connect each result to an attack type, the submitted application build, and the conditions under which it was obtained. A product name or broad label is not enough to judge whether evidence applies to your integration.

- This phone is unlocked and compatible with any carrier of choice on GSM and CDMA networks (e.g. AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular, Cricket, Metro, Tracfone, Mint Mobile, etc.).
- Please check with your carrier to verify compatibility.
- The device does not come with headphones or a SIM card. It does include a generic (Mfi certified) charging cable.
- Tested for battery health and guaranteed to have a minimum battery capacity of 80%.
- Attack coverage: Which presentation attack types and injection methods were tested? Were camera-presented media and media supplied outside the camera path assessed separately?
- Build and configuration: Which exact app or SDK version, settings, and device set were included? Does the evidence apply to the build you intend to deploy?
- Results at the operating threshold: Request APCER (attack presentation classification error rate) and BPCER (bona fide presentation classification error rate) together, at the same threshold used in production. A threshold that rejects more attacks may also reject more genuine users; reviewing just one measure hides that trade-off.
- Test provenance: Ask when and by whom the test was conducted, under what conditions, and what the report actually covers. A result tied to a submitted build and test setup should not be generalized to untested versions or configurations.
- Change control: Agree on when to reassess—especially after a material change to the SDK, app, capture flow, or relevant settings. Earlier evidence may no longer describe the deployed system.
Compare the detection approach with the attack surface
Active, passive, and hardware-assisted checks involve different trade-offs. None of those labels alone proves resistance to a particular attack; compare the method with the route an attacker could use in your integration.

| Approach | What it relies on | Evaluation question |
|---|---|---|
| Active | A user action or challenge-response step | What user action is required, and which attack types were tested against the resulting flow? |
| Passive | Capture quality and trained models or data | Which capture conditions and attack types are represented in the test evidence? |
| Hardware-assisted | Device sensors | Which devices and sensor configurations were tested, and what happens on devices without the required hardware? |
Whichever approach is used, request separate evidence for camera presentations and injected media if both are in scope. Also establish whether the tested devices, build, settings, and threshold match your intended deployment.

Interpret standards and test labels narrowly
A vendor-authored technical explainer reviewed for this topic describes ISO/IEC 30107-3 as a framework for testing and reporting presentation attack detection, rather than a recipe for building a liveness check. Because that interpretation has not been verified here against the standard itself, do not treat it as authoritative guidance about the standard’s requirements.
Likewise, ask what a lab “Level” label refers to, which lab scheme and criteria were used, and which submitted build and conditions the result covers. A label or confirmation letter is not a substitute for the underlying scope and test evidence. Review the relevant standard and lab documentation when you need to make a compliance or procurement decision.

A practical review before deployment
- Map the capture flow. Identify where camera frames enter the app and whether any other path can provide media to the verification process.
- Define the threats. Specify which camera-presented attacks and which injection scenarios matter for your product. Do not treat one category as a proxy for the other.
- Request scoped results. Obtain the attack coverage, APCER and BPCER at the production threshold, test date and conditions, device set, and exact submitted build.
- Check fit. Confirm that the evidence covers your planned devices, settings, app integration, and user flow. Identify unsupported or untested cases rather than assuming they are covered.
- Reassess material changes. Decide what changes trigger another evaluation and keep the evidence associated with the deployed version.
What can be said about the reported fix
Without the original article’s technical body or test artifacts, it is not possible to say whether the reported fix blocked a camera presentation, an injection path, or something else. There is also no basis here to claim that the change was independently evaluated or that it applies to other SDKs. For a specific product decision, request the original technical description and scoped test evidence rather than relying on the headline.
